How exciting Pammy! That is amazing how fast things can go!
I've looked into it. A few areas we'd like to be, don't have the activities we want for the kids. We could transition them, but then again that might backfire. For Ds13 adn dd8 it wouldn't be too hard, nor for dd3. But dd9 has come into her own and is amazing in her sport, she has formed some solid friendships, and those don't come too often.
Looking at it. In this area our house is now worth 500K. The house market here is INSANE. We bought it of 130K. Our mortgage is under 100K. So, we are doing ok. I'd love to have NO mortgage, and if we could find the right place for the right price, I think we'd do it in a hearbeat. But so far, I've not found anywhere tha twould work for us.

My hubby and I downsized after the kids left and I love it. We had a large downpayment on our new home and our new house will be paid for in about 6 years. We have 10 acres, a barn for the horses and room to roam. I have never regretted downsizing. It worked for us and if you have the chance...I'd take it...Blessings..Kathy

WOW Pammy! WTG!

Dh and I actually discussed this last night, We put our house up forsale 3 weeks ago and actually sold it 2 days ago.
My friend is trying to talk me into moving back down home, dh has already indicated how he would move back there in a heart beat. We wouldn`t be mortgage free but we would have a cheaper mortgage for sure. Dh receives a military pension and the taxes are lower down home so he would make an extra $100 to $150 more on his pension each month.
We would only have to work part-time and actually I thought about maybe hairdressing out of my home for some fun money, I am fully lisensed. The girls have 2 and 3 years left of school and they plan on moving away from where we are now anyhow to go to college or university.
What is stopping me from jumping on this great opportunity is the fact that my dds are doing so well in their school now. I also don`t think that dd 14 really wants to move....I still have to talk to her about that along with dd 15. If we are not all aboard then it is definately a no go.

I'd love to sell this house and move to a nice tiny little cottage somewhere on a couple of acres of land. I'd rather have land than the house. I'd really like to design a house after our old vacation cottage we had when we were younger. It had more porch than Living Space, I believe! LOL I'd make a few changes, like exchanging the huge dining room for an eat in kitchen and larger bedrooms, but all in all, I'd pretty much keep it the same.
In fact, I've thought of doing that very thing....recreating that cottage, tin roof and all, on some land in Georgia. Right now it's still a dream.
