Default Do you know your credit score?

Dh and I both know our credit scores. About 6 months ago, we decided we wanted to get out of debt, this is before we decided to revamp our spending habits and live on a budget. At this time we both purchased our scores, and a 1 year subscription, paid in full, to watch our score and recieve alerts anytime something changes. It is really helped us stay on track. It helps to see how much paying a debt off changes your score, as well as opening a new line of credit or charging credit.

The best ways to bring up your credit score are:

    • Pay your bills on time-doing this for 6 months could raise your score by as much as 20 points
    • Pay down the balances on all your credit cards
    • Pay down deliquent balances first

Yes, I know my score which is right now 779, I was totally over my head with debt.. well both DH and I and I worked so yard for years to pay off everything we owed even ones in collection and it paid off, now both our credit scores are about the same give or take a point.

I just want to say we have to have willpower, meaning dont bring your CC with you when you shop but if you do think to yourself "Do I really need it or do I want it? Can I pay the amount I charge back within the grace period?"

I dont take a CC with me anywhere only my bank debit card, and even if I did I know I wouldnt use it because I have willpower... well atleast now I do and I am proud.

Plus the tips you pointed out are great!

We have 1 CC that we keep locked up in our safe. We have to make a concerted effort to use it.

Yes, DH and I both know our credit scores. We pull one a report a year (the free one that everyone's entitled to) because I personally don't believe in paying for information that should be mine anyway (that's another rant!).

Mine has gone up since we started pulling them, mostly because of my age. The biggest strike against me is always how "short" my history is - this year I have 10 years of history. I have some CC's, some student loans, and a car loan that has since been paid - none of the CC's ever carry a balance.

Every January, I get our credit reports free. (yay for one free report a year. ) and I checked our scores then. They should be a bit higher since then though.

I think you pay for the FICO score. At last check when we bought our house last year, mine was 685 and hubby's was 720.

Yep, it's pretty high. I get to see mine for free every month with one of my credit card accounts. I don't even use the card, I just keep the account for the score.

I got the credit report (the free one) awhile back, but if I wanted to see my score, I would have had to pay for it. So, no I don't know my score.

Same here. And since we aren't in the market for a new car or house, I don't feel the need to know it now. I know its not so great since we filed for bankruptcy a few years ago but we've tried to be up on all our payments since.

I have a WaMu card that shows my score. I only use it for the initial 0% BT offer.

Yeah you have to pay for your score. I paid $10 to see both Dh's and mine. I think it's worth that to know where we are sitting.

Yes, we bought a house in April and found it out then. My brother works for the bank and said it was the second highest he had seen.
