    Default LOL at DH

Last night dh says. "We really need to look at our finances". So I tell him the general info. We owe X$. And if we can limit blow money to $100 a week(not including gas), we can have it paid off by next Christmas. He laughs at me!!! "Fat chance" he says. Well. at him. He wants to talk. He wants all the details.

Ummmm... let's see $94 for bus passes, $60 for garbage/water. $150 gas/power. $70 phone/internet.... and at that point his eyes glaze over. He goes, we really need to pay off the CC. Ummm... honey, yours is paid off, the store card is paid off, your other card ispaid off, your other card was overpaid, so there's a credit. My student lone has 6 months left. ...

Then he goes. "we're not making much progress". HULLLOOO?????? I've paid off about $12K in 6 months!!! I"ve worked my butt off, despite him NOT being on board..lol

"we need to be more disciplined in our spending." he says. Can we manage with $100 a week? That doesn't count gift for holidays and birthdays. I budget that. Nope, he doesn't think it's possible.

"If we had a game plan, I'd quit shopping." DID I NOT JUST TELL HIM WHAT GAME PLAN I HAD IN MIND?

Grrr. Men. Oh well, he'll get it eventually. Since I"m paying things off quickly. By Feb. I'll have paid off another 3 debts!!! Leaving only 3!

I also calculated, once the bills are paid off, if we double the payment, as permitted, and put down the extra 15% yearly, at renewal dec 2009, we'd be at about $90K. THen if we were to do that again with the new mortgage, we'd have just over 2.5 years and the mortgage is DONE. Now, convincing him of living lean is doubtful, but perhaps the thought of being completely debt free at 41 yo might motivate him. I have NO problem maintaining the dayhome to accomplish that. I'd like to stop eventually and enjoy being a wife and mom to justmy family that is just 4 years away! Imaging, being able to plan a trip and pay cash, but saving only for a couple months! To replace an appliance cash because there's nothing but utilities to pay. Oh, I'd love to see it! And it's not that big of a stretch!! Especially when my next to don't count in my childcare ratio. In 3 years, my income potential is $3500/mo. Not bad for being home! Tell me THAT won't boost things immensely.

Anyway, thought I'd share what a headstrong hubby I have..lol

Well you just hang in there and keep doing what you're doing. One day soon you can tell him that you've paid the big one off and that'll get his attention . I know b/c I've been there done that. Gripey was a hard sell....

Sounds like you have done a good job yourself without your DH being on board. Good luck!

It helps that he doesn't get a bank card..lol. He has a visa that I clear every month. We are living pretty much on cash. He doesn't seem to "get it". He thinks we should just refinance. Then we have to pay interest on the next 2 years interest as it gets rolled into the mortgage. It's not so bad that we can't do it. LOL. I am hyped. I love playing with the numbers. It keeps me motivated!

You go! My husband doesn't get it either. Says the same kind of stuff. I just keep pushing forward with my plan, even though it gets side tracked once in a while. I don't know if my husband will ever understand.

I have similar problems with my DH. Recently, i have gotten him on board with respecting the grocery budget. I make a list and he pretty much sticks to it cuz he knows i'll grill him if the slipped!!! lol. Sounds like you're doing pretty good though. Keep up the good work!!

Sounds like you're doing a great job, with or without your hubby's help. Like someone else said, wait til you pay off that last big debt. Then he'll be impressed.
