Help me raise $500 in a month?

Hi everyone, really hope this is the right place to put this, but it seems the most logical. I'm really, really homesick, and want to go visit Florida at the end of October. It'd cost about $400 or so for gas for the entire trip, and while we have a gas card and can charge it (my husband gets an extra paycheck in November that we could use to pay it off quick), I am thinking that if I can manage to raise the money beforehand, he'd be more willing to take time off from work, and let us drive to Florida. I'd also want about $100 extra, just in case. I have some friends we can stay with, and meals wouldn't be that expensive.

I am going to go through my books and try and ebay a lot of them.

I am a stay at home mom, and my husband programs at night time and on weekends, so getting an actual job isn't really in the question.

I don't know anyone with kids that I could babysit. Everyone already has a sitter!

We have friends that will hopefully be having a yard sale soon, but that might be in November. And I don't know how much money I can raise from that.

Please help me get us to Florida!

Instead of waiting, organize and have your own yard sale.

are you in a big enough town that you can check out craigslist postings? there are tons of odd jobs on there that you could do during the day or evening here and there for quick cash. the best way to guarantee the money though is to shave it off of somewhere else. say your grocery bill averages 300 a month. really try to be creative these next two months and get by on 150. dont let yourself go over, that will give you 150 right there. do this with other bills.. - do you have any consignment shops? most people i know have closets stuffed to the brim with things that they dont wear or no longer fit them. this could help you get rid of some of that stuff and get a little $ in return. ask dh to get on board. if he normally buys his lunch, ask if you can make it for him instead. i'll try to think of more ideas for you.

We live in an apartment complex, and can't have a yard sale here.

So we need their yard!

The consignment shop is a good idea, I have a box of baby clothes that I need to bring to them. But they only pay once a month.

I too was going to recommend an odd job on Craigslist. We do odd jobs from time to time to pick up extra cash.

What about looking for a house or two to clean? I personally do this and bring my 2 kiddos with me.

Where are you coming from? We just got plane tickets from Pittsburgh to Tampa, round trip for $215 for my MIL.

We live in Jackson. It'd cost about $400 for two plane tickets. So we wouldn't save much money flying, and then we'd be dependent upon other people for rides. Finding someone with 3 extra spots in their vehicle isn't easy! Driving would also give us a chance to stop if Asher (he just turned 1) is fussy.

i'd still put the word out to friends that you are willing to babysit. it's nothing definate, but babysitters get sick and you might be able to pick up a day or two here and there. of you might get an evening of babysitting whent eh regular babysitter won't watch them.
