Default How to stop getting credit card offers in the mail

I am reading an excellent book, Zero Debt by Lynnette Khalfani. In the book she provides a phone number to call to stop the credit card offers from coming in the mail. The number is 1-888-5-OPT-OUT. It forces the credit bureaus to stop selling your name and address to banks and other institutions that send you credit card offers for 5 years. I just did it. Very simple. It takes about 2 minutes

Thanks - I'm going to call today! I hate all the waste in my mailbox although I'm never tempted to reply.

I usually just rip them up. It is my husband that opens them and reads them. He would answer all of them if he could (I always rip them up first before he has a chance to see them lol). I opted him out too.

    Thanks depotlady!
Just a heads up, don't be alarmed when they ask you for your ss #. You can also permanently opt out but it's a longer process.
There is a link there to take you to another online site that can tell you more. http://www.transunion.com/corporate/...lerOptOut.page

I did it and its great, we rarely get offers.

There is a number you can call to stop phone solicitors too, we did that when we moved in and it went from 10-15 calls a day down to 0. If I find the # I'll post it. Anyone know that #?

I also did this for my teenage son. Just what a teenager needs... easy debt! I was furious when he started receiving offers... although not surprised. Even the major banks -- once upstanding establishments -- have become loan sharks.

    Thank you for posting this!
