Should I pay debt collector in full?
this is probably the dumbest question and i'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but can i ask, anyway, to feel better about it?
i was served a summons for my debt by a debt collector. the original creditor sold it to them. i can pay it in full, but on my credit card (please don't lecture me on that, there's no other way). i was reading a book called managing debt for dummies and the way they make it seem in the book is like i shouldn't even SPEAK to the collector once a summons was served and i should get an attorney and have THEM speak. however, that's to make a payment plan, when i really just wanna charge it to my credit card. i can't afford an attorney financially, nor mentally. i know that makes no sense, but i just wanna get this over with so i don't have to go to court. i'm beyond stressed out and feeling sick to my stomach.
any advice? thank you so much.

If you had the cash it would be best to pay it. But since you are just going to get into more debt to pay it I would not. Go to the summons. I sent you a P.M.

We got a summons and called the creditors. We now are just making a payment every month that we could afford. They usually will work with you but you sure have to make that payment afterwards.

oh, I hadnt thought of that. I tried to pay with a credit card once and I was a no go.
Soemthing else I thought of. When I was haveing trouble with lowes I offered them a resonable payment that I could afford. They turned it down and because of that I was let go of all responsabitity. Call them and offer them a monthly that you can afford.

If they refuse a reasonable payment plan from you, they cannot collect. I had a hospital once send my check back when I tried to pay them, and because of that, they could not collect.

Ok first of all sending you lots of positive vibes and a big hug, the hardest part is facing it and getting started, and you've done that! Just keep your chin up and make the call, don't let them bully you!
And hey, it could be worse, I've recently been recieving bills from collectors for someone that lived here 5 years ago! I accidently opened the first one, the interest was 3x what the origional bill was, hope they can finally track her down!
You can do this, and that feeling in the belly will go away before you know it!

you are all SO sweet. thank you so much for your replies.
i did it! i paid it off with the CC and the collector was SUPER nice, too. he told me he's been through it before, too, and would be willing to work something out with me. i decided to just pay with the CC cuz of what i stated above.
i am so relieved. now to take care of other debts before they send me a summons, too...
