    Default Aldi today...

Are any of you regular Aldi shoppers?
That place really saves my food budget big time!

Its an hour from here but I go there daily to take my child to a sn school etc..

    Anyways, today...and lately....
I have continued to have bad luck with produce, but now the meat.
I rush home and cook the meat right then but the insides are not the same color as the outside.
Once I threw the package away because it scared me.
Today I bought stew meat again, and again the insides dont look the outside?

Also it seems to me that Aldi meat went up?
    Anyone else notice that?

Even still I can get a cart full for the same price I pay locally for a few small bags of food.

I most buy Aldi healthy stuff or whole grain, and meat, some canned stuff....When they get in health foods I buy a ton because they wont come back again, and the items are double the price at the grocers?

I only got to Aldi's a couple of times a year. I do look at their website weekly to see what the special offers are, last time I went was when they had whole wheat pasta for like 89 cents. I have never been impressed with the quality of their meats or produce so have never bought them, and I stay away from other perishable items after buying curdled milk from thier in several times.

We have Aldi here in Holland as well. I go there once a week to buy toilet paper, paper towels, cat food, cookies and a few other things. But I don't buy my meat there. I find that their meat never really looks "fresh". I know a lot of people that do buy Aldi meat and have never heard them complain, but I think that meat has to look "fresh" and not have a weirdish color.

I like Aldi, but agree that the produce isn't that great. The meat that I buy there is frozen...chicken quarters, fish, sometimes the pork chops. I like the pasta, cream soups( for casseroles), breads, crackers, cookies, chips. The dairy has been fine, also. I try to remember to check expiration dates. It does seem that the prices have gone up recently, but I still can get a full cart of food for less than $100, which is so much cheaper than the other local stores.

I mentioned this in another thread- the meats in Aldi, Wal Mart, and some other stores which are in those stiff packages and sealed with thick plastic have been flushed with gases which make the surface look bright red, whether it's fresh or not. I don't think there's any proof that it's bad for you, but the thought kinda turns my stomach. With that kind of treatment, meat looks fresher longer. That doesn't mean that it is.

I love Aldi's ... I buy 99% of my pantry items like catsup, mustard, mayo, sugar/flour/baking supplies, beans, rice, pasta sauce, canned goods there. The produce varies ... prices are good, but most days it's pretty picked over because it goes fast. I also get good buys on baby wipes, fish oil capsules, ibuprofen tabs and off-brand Claritan allergy tabs.

Some of my favorite buys include the ground turkey for 99 cents/lb., boxed frozen chicken (like Banquet) for $3.99 a box. I rarely buy fresh meat from the just because I watch the sales and buy loss-leader meats at other local grocery stores.
