Well I'm annoyed
Our last car loan and auto insurance are with USAA. I found out some time ago they were using the extra payments we sent for the LOAN to the AUTO INSURANCE. I called and fixed the bank bill payment to reflect not our member number but the loan number (I had already been told ONCE what I should do by someone at USAA how to send in an extra payment and now I find out that was wrong). I found out another payment had been applied to the auto insurance (one was in the mail when I found out and fixed what happened). But now NOTHING adds up. I called today to check the loan balance and I am WAAAAY off. I have someone sending me a paper copy of the account for the last few months. I called someone in the auto insurance department and for some reason our account has been pulled for review
and he couldn't access recent payments and I would have to call back on Monday. I know we aren't late even without these errors in payment, because we are signed up for automatic monthly payments. Of course we are several months ahead with several hundred dollars of extra payments.
This wouldn't be so hard if we had online access but we screwed up and filed bankruptcy and we were told we would never have online access again - EVER. It does get annoying when every rep we speak to on the phone recommends that we apply for an online account so we don't have to bug them. USAA has killer rates and we can't say no. I can't wait to get this loan over with.

Argh!
You have to stay on top of these bank people. It will work out. Keep forcing them to provide an accounting and you'll find where your money went.

Usually USAA has excellent customer service (we have them for nearly everything except banking). I hope they are able to get this straightened out for you.

We've had USAA for everything for almost 30 years and they are really very good ~ I bet you got some representatives who were not up to speed. I had a problem with them applying my whole mortgage payment to principle instead of our monthly payment making it look like we didn't pay our mortgage at all. It took a *very* persuasive phone call from DH to get it straightened out with no penalties (he's very good with these kinds of calls). I know how frustrated you are!

Everyone has been nice at USAA. It doesn't mean they are helpful with what I want to know. I wrote in the memo line every single time what the payment was for so why did it get allocated incorrectly? And it isn't like they can unpay one bill after the screw up. This has pushed back our total debt payoff several weeks. After I adjusted this time for the error payments being made, my loan balance worked out. But now my insurance payments seem off. I wish they would send out monthly statements every if you are ahead. I haven't seen an insurance payment statement since September. I need proof on paper as to where my money has gone.

I think I figured it out - because I'm obsessive and I can never get on with my day until I do with most things.
And it is so silly because USAA rocks. Every year around December USAA gives out dividends on their insurance. My numbers weren't adding up because I wasn't accounting for getting money back. They used to send checks, now they just pay down your balance. Hi, I'm a dope.
I'm still calling on Monday to confirm.

Where's the sheepish smilie. The mail brought the dividend letter, which is exactly the amount discrepancy after I added in another payment I had missed. *clears her throat* I am no longer annoyed. I can sleep once again.

Glad it all adds up, I can't get on with life either when something is messed up. I just got my CC statement in the mail Friday and I have a 39.00 charge from Little Tykes on there...um, my youngest is 12...haven't bought anything from them for ages. I've called 3 times and get the run around, cust serv. is closed, can't transfer you, etc. its irritating.

I am sooooo
glad you got it sorted out. DH has banked with USAA for 10 years, myself- about 6 yrs. It does stink that you can't have online access - as it answers nearly every single question we have. I do know that with automatic payments, things are handled differently concerning principle and interest. Best wishes with getting your debt paid off quickly!
