Plans for the New Year?
What are your plans for the new year?
For me, our baby emergency fund will be almost fully funded in a couple of weeks. Then, it's time to start the snowball. I'm hoping to really get DH on board and get him involved with the finances. I want to have bi-weekly (or weekly) budget meetings and get us both on the same page. He wants to be out of debt too, but I don't know if he fully understands the committment and sacrifice it's going to require.

My EF will be funded in the next few days. I then intend to fund my vacation (already scheduled and partially paid for) for 2008, then start my debt snowball. Hopefully I can pay off one card and make a major dent in the other. My goal for 2008 is to have all consumer debt paid off.

Boy do I hear you!!!
Financially, we're going to tackle the year in a quarterly manner, so...
1. for the first quarter, we'll be paying off BOA in FULL and cancelling the card. This is the card my husband carries, and uses for gas and whatever (food mostly) when he runs out of his own $$. I get stuck paying the bill and I hate it. Not even the money, just the act of having one more thing to do, to think about, juggle etc. So that's it.
2. We're going to a mini enevelope system for gas. This will also mean I can't garnish bits of his walking around money to pay the BOA, so I guess it will all work out once we adjust.
3. Bye bye to cable tv beginning Jan 1st. I found out that our company has no limited basic cable, so it will have to go entirely.
4. I'm just going to "suck up" the error I made when I bounced my cc payment (our other card) and pay it down til they let me lower the rate - 6 months. For 2 days I toyed with a mini equity loan, just so I wouldn't have the hassle and reminder of my error, but with all the fees and headache associated with that, forget it. The slightly higher rate will be my motivation to pay it off entirely.

My financial goals for the year:
1. Pay off Student Loans (on track to make last payment Dec. '08)
2. Max out Roth IRA for 2008
3. Get "Down Payment for a House Fund" up to $20,000
Some financial housekeeping that I need to do:
1. Open a rollover IRA for two 401(k)s I have from previous employers. I'd rather have everything in one place (Vanguard).
2. Make a Will (I have the software, still talking with DH about who would get our son if we should both pass away)
3. Assess our life insurance situation and purchase some. I know that we're really underinsured, but I don't know how much we have, I just know that it's not enough.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)
