You can check out "Total Money Makeover" (Dave Ramsey) at your library. If the don't have it, ask them to do an interlibrary loan. I bought my hardcover (like new) copy at the Goodwill for 99 cents!

Dave Ramsey has a babysteps approach to climbing out of debt and planning for your future. TMMO (Total Money MakeOver) is a great book to read, definately get it from the library. You can also listen to him on the radio http://www.daveramsey.com/radio/home...strMode=listen
He also now has a show on Fox business channel. http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/cms/da...ork_7703.htmlc

His approach is basic and easy to follow. Get current opn bills, save a small emergency fund so you don't use credit again for a emergency, pay your bills and snowball the payments, etc, etc.

    Dave Ramsey - Baby Steps

0 -- Get current on bills
1 -- $1,000 to start an Emergency Fund
2 -- Pay off all debt using the Debt Snowball
3 -- Three to six months of expenses in savings
3.5 -- Save for downpayment if you do not own a house but want to
4 -- Invest 15 percent of household income into Roth IRAs and pre-tax retirement
5 -- College funding for children
6 -- Pay off home early
7 -- Build wealth and give! --- Invest in mutual funds and real estate

    Good luck!

Thanks!! I'll check the library this week.

After reading the "worst financial situation" stories, I feel inspried! If you gals can make it through some of those horrible situations, I can certainly pay off my dang credit cards!! I just saw dh and I heading for that downward spiral and wanted to stop before we got into really big trouble with our debt. I'm tired of my stomach hurting every time I sit down to pay the bills, wondering if we're going to have enough money.
Nothing can taste as good as being thin will feel.
