on Suze Orman's web site, she is offering a way to save with Ameritrade, and after 1 year of depositing $50 a month, they will give you $100 added to your account. Might be worth checking out. http://www.tdameritrade.com/saveyourself/syo.html
Caitlin - has the interest rate been good? I just did a interest calculator and it said the interest after a year would be just under $10 (assumung just $50/mo contributed). Also, does it have restrictions on withdrawls?
Yep, I signed up for it last year, Ill be getting my $100 in March.
Me too. We must have signed up during the same month.

Last I looked, it was 4%. You must make a minimum deposit of $50/month electronically for 12 consecutive months and if you withdraw anything you don't get the $100 but you still get whatever interest you earned. It's a win/win deal. Oh and you need the code to sign up. It's 701.

I'm expecting my $100 soon as well. Actually it's $200 since both my husband and I opened accounts. I calculated the return on my money at 16%. Where else can you get a guaranteed return of this rate? Nowhere that I know of....
I'm having an "airhead" moment here. I just opened my account & gave them the banking info to fund it. Is there anything else I need to do to make sure the $ is automatically deposited? Thanks for helping me with a (probably) very stupid question.

Have you linked your checking account to it yet? Portfolio and Accounts tab> Deposit/Withdraw > Bank Setup tab > Add new setup > Electronic (ACH)
Once your account is all set up, click on the Portfolio and Accounts tab, click on Deposits/Withdraw, then Create Transactions to set up auto-deposits. Your next deposit has to be within 30 days IIRC so keep that in mind when picking a date for your auto-deposits. When its all set up it should do it every month automatically (mine does) so you only have to set it up once.
I've had my account almost a year so I don't remember how my first deposit happened. You can call them, they are very helpful. 800-669-3900

OK - I have another question for you ladies. If you sign up to have $50 automatically deposited, can you add to this with another check or deposit? For example, some months I get an "extra" paycheck and I'd like to add more $ - is this possible?

Yep, you can put as many extra deposits into it as you'd like, you just have to put a min $50 a month to get the $100.
I still don't get it completely....sorry but can someone answer my dumb question.....Do I need $2000.00 to open an account? Or can I just start depositing $50.00 per month. I don't have the $2000.00 to start so am I denied before I start?
