Now - why would I need my fridge to tell me my milk is going to expire or have it make my grocery list? Crazy!
Thanks for the article. I worry about things like this that are being done without our full knowledge.
Ewww that is creepy, I remember going to church with my grandma when I was little and they showed a movie about armagedeon and how ppl were mircrochipped OMG that has stayed with me and I'm nearly 40.
The "big brother" stuff doesn't really bother me that much .. up to a point. I've always figured if I'm doing nothing wrong I really don't have anything to hide.
Now when they start implanting the microchips in humans... that is a whole different story. I won't even have my cat "chipped." My computer geek friend thinks "the mark" is going to be a microchip, my dh thinks it's going to be a tatoo. Either way, I'm not going to be lining up for it.
allowing retailers and law enforcement to track consumer items - and, by extension, consumers - wherever they go, from a distance.
Privacy...what privacy???

I am not doing anything wrong myself. I guess what bothers me it the level of controll it implies. What happens when the goverment dictates wrong things as being right and no one can escape their observation? If the ability to monitor as described becomes an accepted reality there is no righting the wrong. The moment a person or group even begins to move towards civil disobedience or revolt they are found and delt with. The American Revolution would never have been possible in such an enviroment. I can't help what wondering what happens when it becomes impossible to choose to "disobey". I have alway thought that the ability to watch and track people to this extent is a forerunner to dictatorship.
I just remembered why this sounded familiar...
I have a Dell laptop & printer. Well, my printer tells me when the ink is low. This is all fine and good, but then "it" wants to go online and re-order for me. No. I will order ink myself, thank you.
maybe the 'terminator' movies weren't so science fiction after all. i was especially creeped out when i saw the news article about the japanese robot waiters, ASIMO. i believe they can carry on a conversation with you, move out of your way if they are in your path, run.... very scary if you ask me.
From the (very little bit of) reading I've done, you can disable the chips pretty easily, and the store is supposed to disclose the chip's presence when you buy it. I still don't like the idea. I, too, am not doing anything wrong, but I used to have a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time - like walking through the middle of the riots in Watts in the '70s because I wasn't paying any attention and was trying to memorize lyrics to a song. I don't like the idea of my every step being tracked and recorded so that someone might say, "Gee, she was in that riot, and then she was at blah-blah, I bet she's a subversive!" Yeah, about as subversive as Barry Goldwater - that's me.

I don't want anyone tracking me. It's like having someone intently looking over my shoulder when I am online. Even though I am doing nothing wrong I don't like it!
Ok...that all totally creeps me out!! So does that robot waiter!
Can I move to Little House on the Prairie? I'd miss indoor plumbing, my laptop and wireless connection, and my contacts... If it goes to that I'd rather have the "little house" alternative!!
