Default Help - R9 on credit report

Has anyone ever received one and how do you deal with this? I just called a credit card company to try and work out payments. I was told that it was charged off and that I had been given an R9. However, if I choose to make payments, they will apply the money and put that the account was paid off. What would you do? How do you handle something like this? I was going to send them a small payment each month and concentrate on my other bills. Is this what you would do???

    Any advise is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    before you go paying.....

when was the last date of activity on the account.

Making a payment resets the time clock--so even if you pay it off...they can still report it as bad for the next seven years.

I believe it was February 08. So, do I just concentrate on the other bills? I just want to do the right thing, but also, want to try to build credit back up. We had a really bad spot, but things are getting better. Thanks for any help you can offer.

well..shoot....if you just had activity on it then the clock thing does not matter.

You need to find out what the company is willing to do for you?
Will the mark it current the second you start making payments?
Will they leave it as a R9 no matter what??
Has a collection company contacted you??

If we pay it off, it will still be an R9, but will show paid off. The company is not willing to do anything. No, I havent received any collection letters. I didnt even know that the card was written off until I called to set up payments. I had just received a statement. That is the worst part.

So, I dont know what to do.

the clock thing again--the date on your report may be showing activity when they wrote it off-- but that's not the "real date"

When was the last payment that you made??

have you ever checked out creditboards??

they have a ton of people over there who can advise ya on this.

When was the last date you made a payment to that account?

If you recently made a payment, the clock just restarted at 7 years once again...

Also, even if you made a payment and get that paid off, it will still show as a negative on your credit report for the next 7 years.

Let us know the last date you made a payment on that account and we can help you in what to do next.
