Let us know how your experience is and if it's a good one I'd love it if you'd PM the information to me. I'm in full house purge mode and I'm clearing house of anything we aren't using before we move across the country.

I'm not sure that regular settings are worth that much anymore, unless they have unique craftsmanship. That was the case before gold values increased so much, but I'm not so sure now.

sounds like your mind is already made up... so good luck.
I've been down that road and will tell you selling gold for scrap is not the way to go.

Yes, my mind is made up. I did a considerable amount of research before making my decision. The situation has changed considerably over the years. When I checked into it several years ago, I agree that selling it as scrap was not the way to go. However, with prices changing and refineries more accessible, I think this is the way for me to go.
My intent in posting was not really for advice, but more to share what I'm doing in case there are others who would like to do the same. When I get my price and info from the refinery, I'll share then. Perhaps then, it would be more appropr to discuss whether or not I made the right decision. But, based on the info I have right now, I'm very comfortable with having made an educated decision.
I do appreciate the suggestions and notes of things to consider. They will be helpful to others who are perhaps considering going this same path with items in their jewelry box.

M55F, regarding melting the jewelry down and making something else. I think I discussed that in another post, but if not... my reason for not doing so is simple. I don't wear that much jewelry and the charge for craftsmanship is more than I want to pay. None of these pieces have any real sentimental value, so there is no reason to reinvent them.

Well, I just looked up confirmation that they received my package today. I should hear from the refinery in the next day or two with an offer to purchase. I'll have a better idea how it's going then.

I might have to go and clean out the old jewelery box and see if I can turn some gold in.
