    Angry IRS just gets me...

I am so PO'd right now that I'd like to choke someone!!! Sent in the payoff check on our IRS debt, no problem right? Wrong!!!!! We both received "Notice with Intent to Levy" in the mail today, had to sign for the letters (a costly way of sending mail IMHO)...called IRS, was on hold for 20 minutes and then disconnected grrrrr...called them back, was on hold for 15 minutes and managed to get a human.

After 20 minutes of her looking over our account she comes back on and tells me the reason we received the notice is because they are done up 2-3 weeks ahead of time...and besides that our payment is still pending in their system and could take 2 weeks before it's posted to our account WTF???? Now mind you the check cleared my checking account on March 20th, so why in the dickens should it take them that long to post it to our account? Not only that she shows $45 less pending than was actually sent!!!

Now, I have to wait and see how much money we are going to have to pay them for penalties & interest because of the way they handle their posting...I think I am going to argue against paying the add'l penalties & interest. Afterall, I got the payoff amount from them, sent the payment in plenty of time, they cashed the darn thing, have the wrong amount down as pending...how is this my fault?

I totally agree with you. You should not be penalized for errors. If the check cleared your bank of March 20, then it should have already posted to their system.

I'm not sure why we, as Americans, are not more outraged with IRS. I understand the need for taxes (I like having a road to drive on, sending my child to school, etc) but there must be an easier way for the government to obtain taxes. The average citizen must hire someone to complete their tax returns, so not only do Americans have to pay taxes, but they have to pay someone to tell them how much to pay. Wasn't the goverment created to help govern America or was that to intimidate, threaten and penalities?

Now that I am done ranting, I hope you are able to get the penalties and interest removed, it seems reasonable to me!

    Just a suggestion:

    *get out all your paperwork

    *record of all payments

*get a tax attorney in case you need one, don't most of those give you a free hour???

This just stinks, so sorry you have to deal with it.

Thanks for the support!!! I intend on raising a stink, but I will have to wait until I get a notice from them showing the payment and the amount they say is still owed. I don't mind paying what we owe, but I'll be darned if I'll give them one red cent more!!!

I would totally argue about the interest and penalties and keep calling them and make sure they get your point. Payment was sent and taken from your bank and you can prove that for sure.

    Unhappy

We were having an audit on our 2005 taxes. The IRS site was Texas and we were trying to get it changed to Michigan. Long long story on all the miss information, how they lost our letter and said they sent us one etc. Well this started 11/07 and in Dec. went for the 3rd time to our local office (had a nice lady so I thought) who took all of our documents about 80 pages. She indicated she will send to Texas and make a copy for the examiner here to have if the case gets transferred here. Several calls later we think we are all good. Got a letter in Feb. stated they will make a decision by March 15th. Of course we received four of the same letters regarding this all on the same day. Well were we wrong. First they never got our paperwork in Texas and now they say we owe more money because of the interest. Well my blood pressure is now sky high and off to the local office we go. The nice lady was fired and no one has a clue on what happened to our 80 plus pages ( only have all our information, credit card, VIN numbers bank account numbers etc.). Makes you wonder why she was fired. So after a few tears, no longer being nice our audit should be done in a few days and they think they may just sign off on it. It took me over 4 hours to copy and organize a new set of paperwork. The local office did agree to fax to Texas. At least they could do since they lost our documents. Will keep you posted.

    Freeze,
Actually this is the first time we have had problems with them all the way through the entire thing. I'm beginning to think they are going to miss us and are trying to hang on as long as they can...afterall it's hard to say good-bye after a 4 year relationship !

We have only had relationship with IRS since Nov. and the one office doesn't know what the other office is doing. If we end up owing something and include interest since this all started I will fight it. I'm still not over the lost papers.I love it when they said they sent us a letter telling us they would not transfer the case to MI although we never received that letter. We did get the 4 letters on the same day telling us they had our forms and were reviewing ,and they had none of our papers. Well I guess that is why they audit us to pay for all of the waste of paper, and inefficiency.

We have never met in person with anybody. Initially we hired a company to represent us (one of the ones you see on tv), but ended up firing them when they failed to live up to their promises. That's when I took over...whenever I send them paperwork/answers to their findings I send it where someone has to sign to get it and I staple my returned receipt to my copy of whatever was sent. I've never had an issue with them losing our paperwork and until recently I never had a problem with payments posting promptly. I'm wondering if maybe they didn't have to hire a bunch of new people due to the stimulus payments.

Good luck...make sure you keep good records and whenever you talk to anyone write down the date, time, person's name and their ID #. If they talk too fast make them repeat it. I have made reference to names & ID #s in a lot of my correspondence with them and it does seem to help...
