Debit cards :(
I over spent today because I was using my debit card. My kids have not done anything in so long plus we needed to get out of the house for awhile today.
We stopped at Kmarts to see if there was any clearence deals left on clothes. I found some great deals, I got a beautiful size 3 furry jacket for my oldest for next winter, 5.99, found some jeans my daughter liked for 2.99, spent $17 on outfits for both of my girls for pictures, and other good deals. I spent almost $100 more than I planned because I was using my debit card plus we went out to eat.
My debit card has been convenient for me but I have to start using cash now. Now I have to work 10 hour days for the next 3 days to make up for my overspending

It's so easy to use your debit card and then realize you've spent way more than you planned to........I've done it many times!! I learned that the hard way, more than once! I stick to cash only now!!

I was so afraid this would happen with us when we got our debit card (just got one in the last year or so). But so far, so good.
Just chalk it up to a learning experience

My girls had fun and got things they needed and wanted so I guess it was worth it

I'm glad it was worth it, 3-10 hour days sounds harsh! Sounds like you got some really great deals though!!

Ouch! I'm scared of debit cards, so I've never used them.

I just posted a comment about this in one of Sara's blogs yesterday morning. I only bring cash with me now whenever I have to go shopping for the very reason that you just posted here. it is far too easy to pull out that debit card and spend! I used to rack up an extra 20 to 30.00 everytime I shopped:-( It all adds up. I feel much more comfortable with my cash only system. HUGS, Lynn

This has happened to me time and time again. I started watching a show here called "Till debt do us part" where you learn to make a realistic budget and start using cash instead of debit and credit cards. Couples that come on to the show actually have their cards taken from them for 1 month and they have to live on cash using a jar system. There is even an interactive budget on the host's website that helps you figure out how much to put in each jars and how much you should be spending on housing, life, etc. It's a huge eye opener. We've been on the system for the past 2 months and it's such a relief - no more overspending and no more surprises. I highly recommend it for those (like me) who can't get a handle on those debit cards... The host is Gail Vazoxlade and you can watch her shows on line on slice.ca.

This most important thing is you're on top of it and
not just spending blindly. Good for you." May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."

Yesterday was my first shopping day with cash only, (actually put my check book and debit card in my bill binder and I am leaving it there) it definitely makes it easier to say no to impulse purchases since you don't have the back up of the debit card.

i had to learn this the hard way several times. you're at least aware that you spent more than you originally wanted to. - and you and your girls got to get out the house a bit and change things up. sometimes we all really just need that. dont be too hard on yourself.

We all over spend from time to time. I have never had issues using my debit card...afterall, it is backed by my cash. If I know I have $30 I can spend then I don't spend $50 just because I'm using my debit card. Chalk this up to a learning experience and you did get some good deals on clothes for your girls...
