I shop them regularly. I am not sure they are cheaper than walmart pound for pound and ounce for ounce, but sometimes I don't need a 2 Gallon bottle of bleach, a quart will last most of a year.

I buy all sorts of little things from Dollar Tree too. To be honest I haven't met a dollar store yet I didn't like in some way.

We have both in the nearer "big" towns. I rarely shop there, as they're cluttered, full of plastic stuff I don't need, etc. I think tissue paper is about the only thing I'll buy there on a regular basis. I'd buy shampoo if I found it cheaper than I get it on special at Rite Aid or Shaws, when it's a loss leader.

Soap and hand lotion I buy bulk from goplanetearth.com . I get a 1 lb block of soap base and 1 lb tub of "body butter whip" every year (I cut the soap into hand soap size blocks). DH uses the body butter for shaving these days too, so we've eliminated shaving soap from our shopping list altogether.

We have both and I really like our Dollar Tree. It has been great for picking up HBA items, especially for DS who is headed off to university soon.

We don't have Dollar General or Family Dollar........only Dollar Tree now. I like the $ Tree but don't buy much food there as the ounces are often much lower....making it more expensive.

So. Idaho has the two others and I always have to go in and check them out when I am down there.

Went into a Family Dollar tonight. Much cleaner and better stuff than my "local" store.

It's interesting how many people are unhappy with their Dollar General store. Ours is always clean, has friendly cashiers and accepts coupons. It's a much better shopping experience than at Walmart.

Well we have both and I dont care much for either. I can find most of what they sell there for well over a dollar at the regular dollar store or even cheaper at Walgreens when its on sale and paired with a coupon.

I don't know if there is a Family Dollar near me, but there is a small Dollar General, a big Dollar Tree and a regular Walmart. And an Aldi. I have a fairy good sense of what the good deals are in any one of the stores. I needed an emergency pair of shorts the other day, as I had left mine at home, was surprised to find a pair at DG and I have to say they are pretty good quality. And they were on clearance, always a good thing.

There is a Family Dollar down the street from me. Since I do not have a car I frequent it alot. I get my mouthwash there and other items when they go on sale. Don't forget that they also take mfg coupons. Something I did not realize since they don't really advertise it but they do.

For me it is like going to the five and dime store from years gone by.

It just feels good knowing I can walk there with my cart if I need it and pick things up without spending alot.

Our store has both. I go for cleaning supplies such as bleach and shower curtains. I put the clear ones inside my cloth one and I like the plastic floor mats for my shower. This past Monday General Dollar had all of their summer merchandise on sale for 50% off. My dd got a pair of flip flops for .50cents and I got two wind chimes because the man that cuts our grass accidently knocked mine down (one that my mom gave me for my anniversary) and it got mauled by the lawn mower) for a $1.00. They didn't look exactly like it but they were cute but sounded like it. Ours is kinda cluttered but our Family Dollar is usually pretty nice. I shop there a lot during the holidays. We also have a Freds.

The very little town (900) that we live just outside of has exactly one place for groceries or paper, thread, tape, etc. Dollar General. It's much cheaper for me to drive a mile than 20 miles to go to a town with more variety. I feel their prices are very competitive, at least in our area.

i love dollar tree though. perfect for almost anything. and just for $1. woot woot
I love Dollar Tree, also, TSOO! I get gift wrap and bags and bows, etc, cards, Christmas decor (got some really nice jingle bell Christmas tree decorations once--a great buy).

I like that everything is $1. It limits the type of items sold, but well worth a peek into the store now and then. HUGE Breck shampoos for $1. Baby oil for $1. Gotta like that.....

I'll have to search for those cookies, LOL.

Some of the other $ stores, I've found items that were cheaper elsewhere when I checked. Rounding them off to the nearest dollar amt. doesn't always make it cheaper.
