    Default Straw bale home

I have been reading about straw bale homes online. Anyone here have any first hand knowledge? I am impressed with what I have read so far.

I don't know anything about building one, but I got to tour one this winter. It was so quiet inside! And the temperature was very pleasant.

I live in an eastern suburb of Toronto in Canada, near Lake Ontario and lots of park land.

Sorry, no actual experience yet, but my eventual dream home will be a straw bale.

I have no personal experience, but a friend of mine has been building one for the last couple of years. He might actually get to move in sometime later this year.

Thank you Keith! What an amazing home! It is simply stunning. I can't believe the floor is concrete, it's too pretty!

Default I have been to a few workshops

I have had some experience with building straw bale infill walls. They are labor intensive and take a bit of skill, but the results are worth it.

The best advice I can give is to try and find a workshop near where you live. These are generally great hands on learning opportunities.

The other tidbit of advice is to check and make sure your local building ordinances will permit a straw bale wall systems. To get the proper permits, you sometimes have to educate the local building inspectors.
