Default Thought I Was Getting A Good Deal...

I was at a second hand store recently and found an electric roaster (you know the kind that you plug in and can cook a turkey or large ham). I plugged it in there to find out if it heated up and it did so I bought it for $5. However after getting it home, I noticed that the wire is frayed and exposed toward the middle of the cord. Can it be safely fixed? Help!!! Did I waste my money?

I suspect the cord can be replaced:

I would also think the cord could be replaced. My DH is pretty handy with that sort of stuff and I am sure he would be able to fix it. Good luck!

Unfortunately my the guys around here think the best way to fix things here is duct/duck tape....LOL!!! Don't think that's the answer to this one. I took another look at the cord and I think if I replace the plug it will still give me enough cord to work with. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Although duct tape has it's uses (to numerous to mention), replacing a cord/plug is pretty easy without the tape. Once you've done it a couple of times, a frayed cord will never intimidate you again. Follow the directions on the sites that earlybird mentioned, they're good sites and the info is trustworthy and presto! You'll be heckling down the prices on things with frayed cords soon!

Great advice given! Nothing to add. Glad you didn't try to use duct tape...LOL

Yep, you can fix it. Dh has fixed many. Next one he's doing is a perfectly good cord but he wants a shorter one. It's one of those that come on a portable radio and are a pain to put back into the spot it came out of. Since this is a portable radio and will be used inside & out he wants one where the cord folds up fast.
