These are good tips, I like the one for single women. I notice some of my neighbors in my apt. building keep a pair of their shoes outside their door. If there are men's work boots outside the door, I always think a man lives there. I'll have to pass this tip on to my sister when she moves to a large city this summer.

The Burgler Proofing
I keep my workboots (steel toed) on my porch because I don't want whatever c-r-a-p I've walked through on a jobsite, in my house. And - Yes! It works!! Long story short - It stopped a creep from following through on trying to hit on me.
Look in a thrift store if you don't have your own workboots.
