    Smile Turkey "sale" prices

I missed the flier for Shaws this week - looked up turkey 'sale' price online and was alarmed, so I blearily (not a word, but it WAS early) piled myself into the car to take advantage of .49 cent a pound whole turkey. Butterball was 1.39 a pound. I got a Shaws brand 22 pounder for .49 a pound, and with a check/coupon from DH's work, they paid me just over 9.00 to take it - NICE! (did buy cream, butter, kisses, though - so no cash.)

Is it my faulty memory, or are these prices significantly higher than last year? I thought I remembered .29 or .39 cents a pound. . .

Our local market has Honeysuckle White brand for .39 pound with $20 purchase. I get a free turkey at work, so I'll get a couple of extra sale ones for the freezer and to donate.

~Uh, I'm struggling to remember turkey being under $.99lb around here. The cheapest this year might be $1.29lb since that's the price I see associated with the free turkey deal they usually run.
And for the second year in a row, no turkey check from DH's work. ~

I remember the .25/lb sales from last year too. Price chopper had the lowest, if I remember correctly. I was surprised that the turkey wars didn't seem to have started last week. My memory was that they ran all month last year.

This week's Stop & Shop ad has turkey @ .58/lb and there's a deal where they'll give you 200 of their gas points too.

Shaw's here has frozen turkeys for .49/lb.

Price Chopper says they'll beat anyone's price, but I couldn't find a price.

    IHTH!

I haven't seen any turkey deals. It is almost like the grocery store adds do not realize Thanksgiving is coming up. Turkey isn't even mentioned in the ads.

Safeway is offering .59 cents per pound when you buy $35 dollars of other things. They are offering "lowest price on frozen turkeys guaranteed" so they will price match.

So a 20 pound turkey would cost $11.80 for the bird with a total of $46.80 paid for the bird, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, bread/stuffing mix, pumpkin pie, side veggies, etc. I can get the produce and other things much cheaper at Aldi's still. So unless I can find $35 worth of items at Safeway that I can't get cheaper elsewhere, it isn't a great deal.

The other turkeys I've seen are $.99 to $1.29 per pound.

I was wondering how close to thanksgiving it would be before the sales started. So far here all we've had is the "buy a ham at regular price get a turkey "free" deal, which didn't seem like one IMO.

Turkey is "on sale" at one store for $1.69/lb. Even if the price does go lower next week we will probably end up getting a breast or a boneless breast and paying around 2.50 per pound for it.

I have never seen .29 or .39 turkeys here.

I haven't bought a turkey yet. I can wait because I'm not hosting Thanksgiving, but I would like an inexpensive one for all the meals it provides.

The cheapest I have seen here so far is $.49 a pound, but that is with a $25.00 minimum purchase at that store. There wasn't enough other items that I needed to justify that (this store is higher priced over all, so I only buy sale items there). So, I'm waiting.

It seems the best I've seen here is .49 lb, but I don't cook one, so I have really focused on them.

I bought a frozen turkey today for €2.35/kg, which is €1.06/pound or $1.46/lb in US money. I got the only one they had in the supermarket!
