A while back we had a post on here about looking for a thermos. I have been looking for the short, fat thermos you can carry soup in. Honestly, I have looked everywhere and have only found one and I bought it yesterday at Walmart. I really needed this so dd can carry something besides a sandwich for her lunch this year. I did get the Thermos brand and it's stainless steel but I paid $15 for the thing. I can't believe it. I would have been happy with a nice, cheap one in plastic but I could not find ANY except this one. It will probably last until the end of time (if she doesn't lose it) but still it was way to expensive.
What have you recently purchased that was necessary but really unfrugal? Do you feel bad for days later after spending the money? It's really bugging me that I paid so much for a thermos but I keep telling myself that I did get the Rolls Royce of Thermos world. LOL
an ironing board cover..... .....I've been using this same old stupid board forever - I made some maternity tops when I was pregnant with Katie and used this board with no cover but for some reason, I saw it & felt I needed it..... $8 .....felt awful for two days, then I felt worse - absentmindedly, I slid the iron off of GW's DCU pants and onto the board now complete with cover....carried said DCU pants back to the bedroom, opened the closet, grabbed a hanger, saw my shoes on the closet floor, reorganized shoes in shoe basket, grabbed the bath towel that was hanging on the bedroom doorknob, carried it back into the bathroom, someone had emptied the roll and not replaced it, replaced roll, emptied bathroom trashcan, let the cat out, rolled up the windows on the van, greeted the FedEx guy, looked through my box of treasures, carried dishtowels into kitchen where I see that the iron has burned a hole through my $8 ironing board cover!! Not even in a place where I can use around it.... ....so now I'm making cute little red & white striped potholders.....
What was wrong with my plain old ironing board...?!?!
OK, I got you all beat! We bought a 1999 Chevey Astro van to replace the 1992 one that we had that had high miles and was starting to have problems due to that high mileage. Do I regret it???? NO WAY!!!! Safety is my number 1 priority and there is no way that I want to get stuck out in the middle of nowhere in a broken down vehicle. I do however really feel this strong need to get a job to help pay for it though.

If it's something I NEED, as opposed to an impulse purchase, I don't feel bad about it. Especially if I've shopped around and feel like this is the thing I have to have~ I figure being frugal the rest of the time balances it out somehow.
That said, the last unfrugal purchase I made that I shouldn't have would be some name brand detergent that I paid full-price for~ I had some (another brand) in my stockpile AND I even had coupons somewhere at home for the kind I bought.... but I went ahead and bought it anyway. It was one of those days when I was washing cat urine out of things and the cheaper stuff just wasn't cutting it, but, still, I should have at least waited until I had some coupons with me! Yes, I felt guilty about that one.... but my clothes smelled good!

Lemme think. recent? Well we ate out instead of eating late (waiting for meat to thaw out would have put our dinner at 9 or 10 pm) More recent? With a deck we are building to surround the free hot tub, we plan on putting up lattice work. What's lattice work with out vines? How am I going to grow vines? From window boxes. So I went and bought (at a dollar store) 6 window boxes for that reason. I tried to justify the purchase...but I know darn well we don't need them right now! We can't even start planting the dern things until spring... But I plan on growing plants from seeds that I harvest from my glories growing right now. I'd like to get some passion flower/ fruit vines up there too. Wouldn't grapes be awesome...ideas ideas, ideas...
We are bying mulch and rock and having it delivered next week...delivery isn't so frugal i suppose. But it is more frugal than getting dh to take time off of work to go make a bunch of trips to get it....
Sigh, this is going to be a very unfrugal month.

I bought cereal without a coupon. That's a painful experience.

Okay, I know this will sound really funny, but I had to buy TUMS antacids! I even bought the huge jar from Mr. G's (a liquidation store) on sale for $3.99. I had to! I had been putting it off and noticed the other night when I ate chili that I had terrible heartburn....kept putting it off and wouldn't you know, I kept getting hearburn every night before the TUMS. Now I ususally don't take them regularly, but you know, they're a nice relief...SO I buy the TUMS...need one that night...Ahh, feel better and have not needed one since! But stupid me didn't think to get a SMALL roll in the checkout line, no I seem to have needed the big jar!
