Thumbs down Picked up my first thing from Freecycle today!

It was a cat carrier. I thought great a free carrier, I'm going that way today anyway so I call the lady and she gives me directions. Easy to get to her home.

She hands me the carrier and I really wanted to drop it right there! I wouldn't put road kill in that filthy thing let alone my babies! And the metal gate for the door is all rusted!

Is it always like this? Or did I just get a lousy one the first time out?

I would say lousy one first time out. Just as there are gross people in the world who would give that away, there are neat people who just want to give something away that they can't use yet.

Bummer that it turned out to be a dud , but I wouldn't give up on Freecycle just yet

I'm so sorry. Please don't let this turn you off to Freecycle. There are lots of "clean" people out there who don't try to lay their trash on others.

    Sounds like a rough experience.
I wouldn't give up on freecycle yet I just wouldn't get any thing from that person again.

We got shutters for our house through freecycle, they were dirty as they has been sitting out side a long time but I cleaned them and painted them and now they look awesome on my house.

I'm sure you were just unlucky, Dee. I'd let your branch director of Freecycle know you're not happy with the cat carrier. If they get a few complaints about one person they might check what they are giving away.

I think this experience was the exception to the rule. Usually the experiences have been clean and great.

It is outside right now, I won't let my cats anywhere near it. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow to show you all.

Thanks ladies, I was hoping this was an isolated incident.

Yuck. You'd think she'd be embarrassed to hand you something in that bad of shape!

Yep, bummer. Don't give up Dee, lots of good stuff from good people out there. She might have thought she was doing a good deed, however misguided and

you know, i had kinda the same situation. i even traveled a little distance to get an item. it was sliding glass doors. i mean, they were ok, but not as nice as what we already have. the reason we needed them was cause one of ours has a leak in the seal and the window is all fogged up on the inside. you can't clean it.....and you can't see through it. anyway, needless to say, we still have our old doors.
i have given stuff away though through freecycle. matt thinks i'm weird. he thinks i should just take it to goodwill if i don't want it!

I'm sorry for your bad experience, it really sounds like an isolated incident. I did freecyle for a few months when I was cleaning a ton of stuff out of our house and quit when I was done and after a weird experience with this one woman. Now, I just take my items to Goodwill or try to find someone who can use them.
