So Excited!
So, when we moved into this house, the whole house was carpeted. The carpeting was stained with juice, rust, and all sorts of other ickies that would not come up. We ripped up the carpeting and redid the beautiful hardwood floors beneath. Totally worth it. However, upon ripping up the carpet, we found that the large entrance foyer is half parquet flooring and half 1960's yellow linoleum. Very bad combination and chipped and peeling anyway.
So, we decided we would buy stone tiles and tile it ourselves. However, the stone tiles are so expensive. The cheapest we could find were $1.46 per square foot and we have 110 square feet to tile. And, the cheap ones were icky looking and didn't match the house.
We went to Home Depot yesterday and just happened upon a clearance shelf of stone tiles. $0.88 per square foot, perfect match and just enough boxes of tile to do 110 square feet with a few tiles left over in case there is an error in cutting them!
Dh and my bil are going to work together to do the floor in a few weeks, so there will be no labor cost. We still have to buy the cement and the grout, but overall, we are VERY happy with the savings! My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Good eyes! I try to remind my dh during projects: "Always check the clearance section first". Your experience will be a nice example of this working. I'm sure your floor will look amazing.

Sounds like it was meant to be. Now let'd just hope they guys don't mis-cut too many of those tiles.

That's great news.
New floors make a world of difference. It's awesome you can do the work yourself and got the tiles on discount too.

Wow that's a great find Amy. The labor for laying it would amount to at least 3 times what the tile costs so I'd say you're gonna have a very frugal floor there
Good for you!

Good for you-I just picked out some beautiful new hardwood for the attic studio project--thanks to those 10% off coupons and a sale it was resonable-now I'm getting angry that the nicest floor in my house is going to be in the attic! Considering ripping all the rest out and starting over-we just redid the hardwoods throughtout 3 years ago so I don't think dh is gonna go for it
