Why is maternity stuff so expensive?
I have all the maternity clothes I could ever need between my sisters-in-law giving me theirs and the clothes I've saved from when I bought stuff when I was pregnant with Julia. However, my maternity tights and pantyhose never make it past one pregnancy. Being on my feet all day, I wear those things HARD.
So, since school is back in session, I went to the mall today to buy some. Very disappointing.
At the maternity store (which I would never buy clothing at because the prices are RIDICULOUS) the tights and pantyhose were over $10 a pair. I was able to find some at Macy's on sale for $3.75 and $5.75. I bought a pair of black tights, a pair of black hose, and two pairs of nude hose. I have to have them for work, but I hate the prices. We have a wedding to go to in Ohio on September 17th and I have no idea what I'm going to wear. I'm certainly not buying anything because maternity dresses are so ridiculous. I mean, come on...it's not that much extra fabric!
I should say that I couldn't find ANY at Target or Walmart, and I can't just buy queen sizes of regular hose or tights because they don't stretch the right way for my belly.
Forgive my rant...I just got a little fed up today.

I don't own any maternity wear and have in my last pregnancies just worn larger sizes. I can see where that would work if I were working though or had anywhere special to go.
It is expensive and shouldn't be any more than larger sized clothing imo.
I'm just about up an entire size now and need to pickup some pants that I know will fit me after delivery.
With attending classes, I may have to actually purchase maternity clothes. I am dreading it because this is definitely our last baby and I hate to put money into clothing especially knowing I won't be using them later. I plan to hold out as long as I can. lol
Maybe I'll get lucky and not get very big. yeah riiiight. lmaoIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. for the wedding, you might want to look for an empire waisted dress or a dress that has ties on the side. you'd be able to wear them during the pregnancy and afterwards since they don't have a defined waistline around the middle.

If you rinse and FREEZE your panty hose before you wear them, they are supposed to last longer
NO I don't know how it works but It does SEEM to!
I tried this many years ago when I had to wear special expensive support hose when I worked and it did seem to make them less prone to snagging
Also don't forget that old trick about chopping off the leg with the hole in it ( the panty hose though, not YOUR leg
) then add another pair of one legged pantyhose to re-create a "new" pair

When I was pregnant in the dim dark ages, I wore a very simple black maternity dress that was kind of like a tunic. I wore black tights with it. DH called me the grim reeper lol!! Anyhow, I thought it looked good and people often complimented me on not looking frumpy.
So Amy, I just went shopping looking for an inexpensive (but doesn't look it) dress for you to wear to the wedding. Have a look at these. I think the prices are ok.:

basically i'll i've ever done for maternity clothing was to save the bigger sized jeans and the loose waist dresses to use until I was about 5 1/2 months, then if i needed a new "real" maternity dress, i would make it....i'm 5'9 & prefer to make my own, b/c i like to wear my dresses long & i can add to the length of the pattern. for me, dresses are much comfortable....and as far as panyhose are concerned, i've just put up with the regular hose from silkies (they are made really well)....yet, when my belly grew bigger, it was aggravating when the top of the hose rolled under my belly...lol...i just put up w/it b/c it never rolled lower than my hips & no one could tell anyway.........i saved my maternity dresses and for sleepwear, i just swipe an extra pair of dh's sweatpants & a large tshirt (sweatshirt if its cold).
