I love Abreva

The Friday before Christmas I get really sick, really quickly and felt a cold sore coming on, never tried Abreva before, but made dh go buy some as a friend swears by the stuff. Within 3 days gone gone gone, not even a trace of one left!!! It was expensive, about $15 but so worth it!

Glad to hear it worked for you. My mom has used it several times, but I've never tried it. I saw a $2 rebate recently for Abreva (trying to remember which store ~ seems like it was one of the pharmacies), so keep a look out at the store for it. It'll help defray the cost a little bit.

I have been plagued by cold sores for 43 years. But no more. Abreva is great, but it doesn't prevent them entirely.

Over a year ago I started taking L-lysine, an amino acid that interferes with herpesvirus replication. I take 500mg once a day, unless I am under some stress or other that increases my risk of a cold sore or canker sores, like a COLD (lol), or too much UV light, or overtired, or eating too much citrus/chocolate/nuts. If that's the case, I double up to 500 mg twice a day.

NO MORE COLD SORES. VIRTUALLY NO CANKER SORES.

I also use lysine in my feline patients frequently. Feline herpesvirus is the most common cause of upper respiratory infections, conjunctivitis, and corneal disease in the cat. It works. It's a miracle cure, IMHO, and it's CHEAP. My clients are very happy. We use the specially made feline gel in kitties.

For myself, I get it here at Trader Joe's for under $3 for a bottle of 100 tablets. Best money I have ever spent.
