I plan on starting to participate. The last time I checked into it, there was not a place close to me. Now there is. This will help a great deal for us.

We've used it twice. Some of the food isn't as nice of quality as I would normally like to buy, but we supplement it with fresh fruits and veggies.
I have tried a couple of the specials; the grill box and the 4 meal kit. I was dissapointed in both, they were way too processed for me. But the regular box usually has mostly decent items.
One plus, in my opinion, is that the organization that distributes it (local church usually) gets a small portion for each box purchased. I think its like $1 for a regular box and .40 for each "special." I could have that backwards, I don't remember exactly, but, they do get some money back to support the local ministry/outreach there.

I have checked a couple of times for the menu of the Angel program. But when I figured making the same from scratch it was not a savings for me. But I also agree that it is mostly "cheap" food. Not very healthy at all.

I would probably use it sometimes, but not all the time. It sounds like a lot of high-carb/high-fat foods to me. (That from the person who had enchiladas and pizza for lunch - mea culpa!)

We got this month's box too. I am not a fan of cooking so if I can get the entrees cheap, I can suppliment with the fresh fruits and veggies I get at Farmer's Market. The steak deal coming up in a good one.

Do you have a crockpot or a roaster? There's lots of delicious recipes for those. You can plug them in on the deck or in the garage and keep even the small amount of heat generated out of the house.
You can also slice the meats into cutlets and cook them on the stovetop. Cut them even smaller for stir-fries.

I've already done my turkey in the crockpot. For either the pork or turkey I put in stuffing and put the meat on top, cook. I'm not much or a recipe person, I just tend to dump stuff in. I've done the turkey with carrots, celery, onion and potatoes. I've done the pork on a bed of sauerkraut and apples. Yum! I've also cooked both plain, pulled apart and added bbq sauce for sandwiches.

I have been using it or 1 and 1/2 years. I love angel food ministries. If there is a chicken special I almost always order them. My kids like the popcorn chicken and the strips. We like the food and if there is something we don't like I will pass on to my brother.

I've looked at that program as well as SHARE a couple of times, but that just isn't the way we eat. Although the menu you posted is a little less "junk food" filled than most I have seen.

I feel the same way. I won't use the breaded items, and all the ready made foods. I prefer fresh fruits and veggies.I usually skip desserts. I hesitate to pass certain food along to others since I see it as unhealthy.I would rather pass food along by way of my vegetable stand.

They have tons of them in NY state and NONE of them are within driving distance.
We do, however, have a program called "Food $ense" that is the same sort of concept. You get a box of food that varies from month to month. The average is $5 of food for every $3 paid for the box.
I've found them to be either not a good deal, or full of convenience foods that we don't eat, or both.
