Question Where to get the best socks

Ok i know this is kinda silly but, my DH has a tendancy to tear the crap outta his socks....i am trying to find the best ones for my money. The cheap ones seem to get, well for lack of a better word, crunchy after they have been washed too many times. I am guessing this is because of the polyester in them ??? I guess i'd rather pay a bit more for good socks that will last better, than the cheap ones that seem to wear out fast....anyone have any opinions on the idea.

I read an article a couple of years ago that said it is hard to find well made socks in the US. I have found this to be true. I recently started buying my socks from a store that only sells socks, and I even found their socks to be crappy.

We had the same problem with dh's socks...until we gave in and invested in *gulp* Gold Toe Socks

He's had the same socks for nearly a year now with no signs of wear. Plus, the clean very well (no grey/brown soles).

At Bj's they have these Hanes socks, they really wear well. Not sure of the style but they aren't the average Hanes & aren't sold at stores like walmart or kmart. At least that's the brand I think they are,lol

My dh wears steel toed boots and he has problems with his socks getting holes in the toe and heel. I found some fruit of the loom work gear socks that are for steel toe boots and they last alot longer and he likes them. They have a little lycra and anti-microbial odor protection. I found them at Dollar General, $5 for a pack of 5 pair.

My dh wears hanes but then again we have never had a problem.
You might try soaking you dh's socks in a vinegar solution, it sounds like his feet sweat and I know this works for the under arms of t shirts to keep them from the crunchies. I also bleach our socks and wash them in hot water.

DH wears socks from Lands' End. He says they last a year or two ... He watches for the sales & gets them around $5/pair.

argh, we have the same problem. those steel toe boots like to eat socks. all his are crunchy and have little black lint balls all over them from the inside of his boots. i wash and soak and bleach and theyre still there. he doesn't seem to mind, but im embarrased for him.

If you really want to make an investment, the REI brand is actually made by Fox River -- very high quality. Should last for a lonnnng time. At least that's what we're hoping because we bought a couple of pairs of quick-dry REI hiking socks for an upcoming trip.

You might talk to the kids working at camping stores like REI or EMS ... they are usually pretty hardcore about things like socks and very knowledgeable.
