    Default Bent and dent

I went to a bent and dent store yesterday and got the following:

    14 various pastas 16 oz a piece
    10 various rice/vermicelli mixes
1 ice tea mix large can
7 boxes individual drink mixes you add to water
1 pound of yeast (I will be spliting this with my mother)
    4 jars of salsa
    10 pounds of rice
morton's tender quick 2 pound package (I will be making summer sausage)
    6 montreal steak marinade

I spent 25.00. I was really pleased with everything and nothing was bent or dented....hmmmm. Expiration dates were fine too. Nothing fancy about the store, just plain old wooden shelves and a cement floor. It was very clean though I looked......lol. I am becoming a fan of bent and dent's. I wish we had one closer but we were out visiting anyway and it was worth the stop.

You did very well for $25.00. I wish we had a store like that here.

No, the salsa wasn't expired. Expiration date was 12-08. Nothing I got was bent or dented. The yeast's expiration date was 12-09.

I forgot to add to my list above two bottles of seasoning, one mccormick salad supreme and one chicken seasoning. No expiration date on those though.

then you got a good deal if its not going to expire for 7 to 8 months.

    long as you use it.
Recently I had to clean out some kitchen cabinets and found stock from the year 2000 ( expired in 2000) so I try to now limit my stockpile to what we can comsume/ eat in a year as far as food goes
but if I run into a deal on soap or shampoo ( killer deals only) then I will buy up to 5 years worth.

We have a place sort of like that. They get stuff where 18-weelers rolled over or boxes got wet. I guess anything that the customer will not accept. I have only looked for children's clothes and they were not that good for that. I haven't looked at their grocery items.

We have a great bent and dent store here (well...bout 20 mins away..I stock up when I go).On some stuff its the same price or MORE than places like Wal-Mart or Target..stuff like TP,laundry deterent, I rarely find deals on those =/

Boxed items are usually my best thing because they MAY be crushed a little.I wont buy anything that looks like someone dropped a 100 lb ball on LOL
I dig through and get the best ones..sometimes they wont even be crushed they were just in the same shipping box that got crushed and maybe only one side got crushed (hope that makes sense). And of course I ALWAYS check the dates.Crackers I really got to watch...they are almost always expired..so I look for dates...if its coded..some I can read because my husband worked in retail for 14 yrs,but some I cant read. Not sure if anyone knows this (Im sure you do lol) you can call companies that code products and ask them what the numbers/letters mean and learn to read them.
Cereal I can get for $1 box even the BIG boxes.Oatmeal, nutrigrain bars and poptarts are also normally around $1 a box..sometimes if they have alot they are 2/$1
Canned goods are normally 3/.50..one can of corn at Wal-Mart is more than that.

They also get what I call CVS,eckers, krogers,(few other store) rejects lol....but its stuff CVS or whoever had, and either didnt sell, discontinued or the packaging was changed from the maker.cosmetics are really cheap....I got some revlon (or Loreal) lipstick not long ago for $1 and it was $7 at Wal-Mart.
I did get diapers and pulls ups pretty cheap,but...we dont buy those anymore Thank goodness!!

    Anyway...love bent and dents...

    You did great!

My sister use to work at our local bent and dent. They picked up regularly from Kroger and occassionally from other places. Some stuff was beat up, some expired, and other stuff was just over ordered or no longer going to be carried.

I know what to watch for when I go in. Some things are awesome prices and others are almost the same as the store.

You got a GREAT deal. Enjoy it......and get to know a couple of the stocker/pricers they can tell you when trucks are coming in and maybe even hold stuff in the back for you.

I agree.Ask the cashiers or someone out stocking when they get trucks.Ours gets theirs on Monday and Thursdays.

When this one first opened he was dirt cheap....now,with so many people going in...his prices,on some things are just the same as any other place =/

At my warehouse store we can get all kinds of things dirt cheap. 20 ib bags of potatoes-$1.00, bags of onions, lettuce, limes, and tomatoes they often give away, $4 lunchmeat for .75, bags of salad mix for .25-.50. You just have to get there right when the truck comes in to get the really good stuff. They also get lugs of seasonal fruit in, like peaches for about 3 bucks a lug :-) About 4 or 5 years ago when my DH worked at a semi-repair shop by the Wal-Mart distribution center I can remember getting 20 cases of free yogurt, free steaks, cases of lettuce, juice, cases and cases of free totinos pizzas that we didn't have freezer space for, so we had to keep them outside (it was January in sub-zero weather). Now he's a mechanic for the truck place ON the Wall Mart property, so we still get all kinds of awesome deals ($1 a case chips, cases of waffels, etc). If an unopened case of food (aka-the waffles) even touches the floor, their supposed to throw it out, but they give it to the employees most of the time instead ;-)
