Anyone homeschooling teens?
I'm seriously thinking of bringing my 14 year old son home to school. I'm a bit fed up our public school and have had more headaches in the last few years than I ever did with my oldest who will be graduating from college next year. Anyway........I've never done this before and am just looking for some advice!
TIA

I was also homeschooled as a teen and am currently homeschooling 3 teenagers. Ask away.

We homeschool our teens as well. Although, this year we have hired 3 private teachers for DD.

My oldest is 12, not quite a teen. We are planning on homeschooling all three through the teen years though.

Thanks ladies.......I appreciate your willingness to help me out a bit!!
I'm not sure what I need to know! We've always been in the public school system! I guess I'm just afraid that I might not be able to give him all that he needs so that once he "graduates" from high school he can go on to college!

~Homeschooling isn't as scary as it seems. It's really as simple as read & discuss. A 14 year old can be very self-guided in his education so what you have to do may be very little. Curriculum programs are pretty easy to understand and follow without adult supervision. My mom was pretty progressive and encouraged us to explore what interested us. I pretty much chose my own curriculum for 11th and 12th grade which was fun. I placed very well in the ACT and got above average grades in college. My homeschooled sister went to college as well. Just try to remember how much of a teen's time is wasted in school and how much time is actually spent learning. Even a heavy load of advanced classes can be completed in about 5 hours at home, without 'homework', lol! I remember my bookwork took about 3 hours and then I had the afternoon free to pursue my hobbies of sewing, photography and creative writing. I loved that I had time to do the things that were most interesting to me.~

We now have 4 Homeschool graduates and like you, I was concerned about the college issue....also about being able to teach them everything that they needed to be prepared for the transition.
Now I realize that the only thing that we really had to be worried about is the cost of college.
At first, dh & I toyed with the idea of HS - then we decided to just jump into it w/ both feet when ds#1 was in 7th grade. I actually believe that I was more afraid of my own limitations & of course, there were always the nay-sayers as to why we shouldn't.Now that I can look back at it all - it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.lol
