Thumbs up Found a homeschool group!

They are awesome, secular and active. We went their monthly meeting today. It was just unstructured play for the kids while the mom's talked about upcoming events & such. But it was GREAT! The younger two made tons of friends and came home with phone numbers. Even my 14yo made a friend and is interested in continuing group activities!

We are on our way back out the door to a meeting about forming a book club. Previously, they were disinterested. Now that they've met the kids who will be there...they are interested

    YAY!!!!

Good for you! I'm sure that will make a huge difference when they have other kids to relate to and share the same experiences with. And you'll have the other moms for support and to bounce ideas off of.

That's great. Our group had a sewing workshop for the boys(girls allowed too) this week and then free play. We all had a good time and my ds11 came home a made another pillow before bedtime.

That's wonderful!!!!! I really wish we had a secular group here. I'm sure the kids will love having children around that can relate to their specific lifestyle.

Isn't peer pressure and competition wonderful in small doses?

How is it that I never knew this section of FV existed?

Anyway, I'm so glad you found a great group. We have a wonderful one that we love. It's secular and very active as well. The kids have made such wonderful friends. Its nice to have a group that your kids can consistently play with and grow up with.

I think finding the right support group is essential to the happiness of mom and kids. Glad you found one!

I am so jealous I would love to homeschool but I worry about there not being as many other homeschoolers here as in USA so its harder to make friends here and my kids need friends as do I. I like the social side of the drop off and pick up at school, although sometimes the politics gets too much for me!

Count me as another envious of your success in finding a group. I found only one secular group nearby, that was a co-op. Great group but not affordable for all three to take everything, and not terribly practical if they didn't. Tried to start my own playgroup and there was no interest. I liked homeschooling and wish we could have made it successful.

Now I'm cyberschooling, because I just couldn't find support or resources for secular homeschoolers. This is working out for us, so far anyway.

It's too bad you couldn't find support in your neck of the woods. There are tons of secular resources though. You can also check out www.thedenimjumper.com. Its a secular homeschool message board. It used to be very active, but I'm not sure how much anymore.
