Helping kids understand...
the current economy and history of the Depression
My dd, 8, got the Kit Kitterage American Girl for her birthday (an ebay steal). We watched the movie when my mom recorded it for us off of HBO and now she is almost finished reading the book series.
This has been a really good unit study for us because the time period for the Kit books (all American Girl's are historical fiction set at different times in history) is during the Depression. We have been able to link these books into current events, frugality, charity work, and more. Even if you don't have the doll I highly recommend the Kit series for helping kids understand what is going on in the world in a way that shows it's seriousness without being scary.
ETA: most libraries have ALL of the American Girl books due to their popularityLast edited by elphie; 01-27-2009 at 01:02 PM.
