    Default Scootch Over...

    and make room for US!!!!

I started a blog at http://homeschoolingforherfuture.blogspot.com but to give you a summary -- Everyone agreed that she needs more than what she is getting, and she WILL be home-schooled!!!

The date is still unsure... I had planned on the day holiday vacation starts, but tuition is due Dec. 1, and I don't think they will allow her to stay the extra 2 weeks without making the $1200 payment.

I -have- figured out what math we will use, I will join the hslda on Monday (when the money is cleared in the bank) and I will spend the rest of my time running between the laundry, the livingroom and online trying to get everything ready to finally have her HOME !!!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

We also started homeschooling this year. My DD is 9 she was suppose to go into 4th grade but she was reading at a 2nd grade level. We went through the same things you did with the school district. She had an IEP and she was receiving special help since she was in first grade but nothing was helping. Finally I convinced my husband that she would do better at home.

She has made giant strides this year. We have been homeschooling for 4 months and she is now reading at a third grade level! I believe this is one of the best things I have done for my daughter and I don't regret it for a minute. That being said, some days I wonder if we are doing enough. We use Time 4 Learning . com and lots of library books for our curriculum. It is a complete computer based program and it is $20 a month but I find that it keeps us on track. And you can cancel at any time if you find it doesn't work out for you. The main reason I like the program is she can do 4th grade Math, Science, and Social Studies but 2nd (now 3rd) grade Language Arts.

Best of luck to you and your homeschooling journey.

Fantastic!!! Hold on for a huge learning experience for yourself and her. Just to add, I use Time4Learning for LA and LA extensions. I use them as a resource for history and science with other things we use. What math did you choose? Good luck and keep us posted.

Miquon math - that way we can refresh with the second grade level while we are still pending. She has used the rods in first grade and did well with them.

    English - Harcourt textbook/workbook/spelling/teacher edition
Cursive - grade 4 as she is advanced

Social Studies/History - we live in a great place for this!! Revolutionar War

Science - still a work in progress. I did find a workbook I can use as a guide for creating lessons, Cycles and Bubble and Squeek

Art - still unknown, she is very creative... I need ideas for this, xFIL wants to sign her up for art lessons

Music - still not sure what we can do for this

Gym - she loves sports, we'll sign her up for lessons or a team

Lady V - I have a suggestion for art, music and gym. A very dear friend homeschools her daughter ( a delightful, well-rounded child, I might add) and she uses outside sources for those three lessons. The benefit is two-fold - some socialization and additional creative and active outlets that she might not be able to provide her daughter on her own.

Her daughter attends ballet for gym, piano lessons for music, and art lessons for art.
