What do teachers make? More than you think...
The conversation in Mauimagic's recent thread (Pay cut on the table) around the importance of education and the pivotal role played by teachers reminded me of this video:

I think it's awesome and very, very true.2012

Wow that guy is serious.

I was surprised at how much teachers make and if those figures are true, we need to have a good system of judging who gets good raises .

He's pretty intense. I would not like to have an argument with him.

Good stuff. Spread the smiles.
I'm sure salaries vary across countries, I find that they don't ever seem to get paid enough! But you are right in that the talented and hard-working teachers in our education system really deserve to have their efforts recognised and should definitely be paid accordingly.2012

My hubby has worked in different school districts and yes the teachers pay does vary and some sure shouldn't make what they do, cos' their as I call them, a waste of space... Over the years I have learned there are 2 type of teachers and I have been proven right every time..
1 ~ they are there for the teaching
2 ~ they are there for the holidays and summers off
You can sooooo tell which is which.. With the first day, I can tell what type of teacher it is and have removed my kids from classes.. I want a teacher that feels teaching my child matters.. We've had a drunk that the district wouldn't do anything about, a verbal abuser, a "I got a degree and you better respect me, but I wont respect you", etc.= waste of space. No way will I put up with that for a whole school year, so why would I expect my kid too....
My hubby has usually been considered beneath them in most teachers minds.. He has been a custodian sense 92, now is a head custodian and the lack of respect a lot of teachers show custodians is really pathetic.. Yes teachers have the degree, but custodians work a lot harder and if not for them, no school would be a good learning atmosphere... He does make more than some teachers..
I respect good teachers and think their pay should be better, not cos' they have a degree, that was their choice, but cos' they care about their students and their future. Not just cos' test scores as every kid tests differently.. My girls and I never tested well, which was never a reflection on the good teacher, we just like froze during tests...Mom of 4

Syn D definitely. I remember certain teachers at school who clearly hated the day-to-day activity of teaching and, weirdly, seemed to hate kids. I would always think to myself, 'Why did you choose this as a career?'. It sure as heck had nothing to do with sharing knowledge and supporting pupils. It's definitely a vocation.
I'm sorry your husband has been disrespected by some teachers. That's disappointing
. Thank goodness for the decent ones!
