    Default Homeschooling question

I am really interested in homeschooling my kids and was wondering at what age did you all start homeschooling your children?

My children have never been in school, but we didn't really started using a curriculum until kindergarten. I would say we have homeschooled them from birth.

Started homeschooling when dd was going into 6th grade. It was a huge adjustment for her because she had been in public school since kindergarten. I personally think that the younger the child is the smoother it will work because dd was not very happy the first year we homeschooled and I just about pulled my hair out. But I've read of others starting to homeschool when their kids were in high school and they did alright. Depends a lot on the kids themselves I guess, some adjust better than others.

We started homeschooling when our kids were 7 and in grade Kindergarten. I'm a firm believer in not starting school early and I'm glad we didn't.

We've always homeschooled though right from birth because we've been teaching our kids, just not with curriculum until they were 7.

I agree with Doodlebug in that each child is different and many start teaching their children after they've gone to a public school or even when they begin high school. Each family is different. Dozymom (a member here) started her kids when they were in higher grades and had great success in doing so.

Always remember that your always teaching your kids, actually almost from birth. Even if you don't use a set curriculum until they are older, reading to them, taking them to interesting places, ie. art galleries, musuems, etc. and letting them play with educational toys along with toys where they can use their imagination and be creative, in my books is all homeschooling.

We started when my oldest was going into 5th grade and the twins were going into 4th grade. I wish we had started sooner because we all absolutely love this lifestyle and are so much happier. My kids begged us to homeschool them because school was boring for them and there were things being taught there that our family has real problems with. They now can progress at their own rate (way above grade level) and pursue their interests in depth!
