Question How often do you use the library in your homeschooling?

We are at the library once a week now and they love us there because we take out so many books. My kids will read just about anything.

The library is our main source for information, even more so that the internet.

I just found out because we live in a small rural town with no library, I can have books sent to us for free and returned free. Woo hoo, now we can find more books.

How often do you use the library for your schooling?

We use the library once a week for educational, recreational, and informational purposes. My kids read anything they can get their hands on. Isn't great to see little kids light up when you say "Let's go to the library."?

Oh my goodness - we use the library TONS! (and I have the late fees to prove it!) There are 16 libraries in our area linked together on line. I can reserved books from any library and they are all sent to mine to be picked up. Our libraries have an excellent selection of videos, dvds, and cdroms, too. Free concerts, lectures, art shows, etc. We are so blessed in this area!

The only downer is the building itself. Our local library is tiny, and is in a strip mall next to a cigarette shop. You can't find too much by browsing, so I stick mostly to internet searches.

Last week I picked up over a dozen books on Ancient Egypt. The librarian looked over the books and looked at me and said "Are you a homeschooler?"

My biggest problem is that I can't get into a rhythm for visits. Some weeks I'm there twice a week, then the next thing I know the late fees are piling up. We should make it a weekly date, I guess.

We use Charlotte Mason methods, so we are always looking for living books rather than textbooks. I use the library for much of our history reading, and most of our science, art and music studies.

We check tons of books out from the library. Since we are doing thematic units, ds and I read 4 or 5 books per lesson (3 lessons a week). I also do my searches using my county library system, put the books on hold, and have them sent to my library of choice for pickup. It's not unusual for them to have a BOX (literally!) of books for us when we go in to pick them up. LOL!

We are usually there every week. We get tons of books, videos, magazines book/tapes. We also have a very small library but it is amazing what they do have. We only have to drive 15 minutes to a bigger library but we can pretty much get in whatever we want from our small one.

We usually hit the library every week too; the odd time two weeks will go by but by then my dd is complaining loudly Last night dh and I went to the library again because we dropped the dks off at their first aid class and we didn't want to waste the gas driving back home for only an hour. Dh took his laptop and worked and I spent a wonderful hour flipping through magazines.

I work at our library. I love homeschoolers and they tend to come the nights I work because they know I love to help them.
As a supplemental homeschooler I tend to check tons of books out to help dd in whatever units she is working on. I turn them into thematic units to help her in other subject areas.
Dd comes up to our library the 2 nights I work. Wed. morning I take ds to story hour. Which is social hour for the moms.
On any given day I have 30 to 40 items checked out!
We are so lucky to have a wonderful library in such a small town and we too have about 30 libraries linked in our system to loan between. Plus OCLC lets you borrow anything in the nation the library is willing to loan.
