Default Do you think I should worry?

Dd is 4 will be 5 in 3 weeks.I took her out of prek for many reasons mainly having to do with the daycare it was at.Prek is not required but I started homeschooling her 2-3 days a week with kindergarten material. We have been kinda slack on it for quite some time and now I'm starting to watch my neighbors 6week old daughter and wonder if I can do it.Do you think she will be hurting come this fall when she goes to kindergarten?

My son went to kindergarden with no pre-K help and did just fine. If you work on letter recognition, how to spell her name, address, info and phone number, and the alphabet she will be fine. JMHO

Amanda, in order for dd not to be in REMEDIAL Kindergarten in the state of TN (where we were at the time), she was given the Brigantz (SP?) test. It consisted of 100 different things, including letter/number recognition, knowing her full name and being able to spell it, knowing parts of the body(dd missed collarbone), knowing address and phone number and knowing both parents full names (first and last).

If you were already using Kindergarden materials with Lauren, I bet you have covered most of it already.

My kids never went to pre-k. She'll be fine. If she's too advanced, she'll be bored. My niece knew her numbers to 100, etc. going into kindergarten and hated school because she knew it all already.

I agree, many kids don't have prek and do just fine once they start K. Relax, enjoy her and do lots of reading to her. That will help her in more ways that anything else.

I've seen many kids start K without knowing anything other than their name and telephone number and they've done well!!

My ds didn't do pre-K, he is in 1st grade now and reading 4th grade work and doing 2nd grade math.... Sometimes staying home is good.... You are the most influential teacher she'll ever have......

Illinois has a pre-school and Kindergarten screening every Spring. It consists of several retired teachers and the Kindergarten staff. They take the kids through several stations. Body parts, letters, numbers, Gross motor and fine motor skills, hearing, sight and speech screening. It's wonderful to get a picture of where your child is developmentally.
Call your school board and see if they offer a screening in your district. They probably do. Then you can get a better picture. They told me to work with my son on letter recognition and scissors. We have been doing this faithfully and I feel confident when the time comes he'll be ready.
