    Default Going to College....

I have been considering going to college, but I have been out of school for 10 yrs, got my GED when I was 21, I am 26 now! I have been looking at several different schools, but am finding it rather overwelming. I will definately need federal aid to help pay for it. To me it seems like it is going to be twice as hard to get "accepted" since I only have my GED. I really want to do this, but then again I am really getting discouraged. What would ya'll do?

It will n ot be twice as hard because of a GED because alot of entry criteria is based on your SAT scores. If you know what you want to study get in there and do it- The only thing that would bother me , and I could be dead wrong, is do you want to - are you ready to give college the time commitment it needs - You might consider taking a few courses at CC just to see if you are ready - I, for one, am guilty of gettin in there and partying away my whole first year - My scholarship was on probation. It is a huge new world at a University and you are at exactly the right age to really "enjoy the heck out of " if you know what I mean. Of course that could also be because I went to Ariz State Univ and it was THE #1 Party school 7 years in a row in Playboy Magazine. Good luck and don't let anything discourage you - just know what you want to do and GO FOR IT!!

I would start with a community college (two year). So much cheaper, and they should accept you with your GED, no problem. My DH just started this year, and my oldest dd will graduate with her Bachelor's degree in English in December. Both had GEDs instead of high school diplomas. Good Luck to you!

Ellise.....what school did you go through to do your distance learning? I have been thinking about Liberty University for distance learning. I have also been considering Crown College, which is in Knoxville, TN or just going up the road to Western Kentucky University.

I went through Liberty University got my Masters in Childhood Education. Like I said it took me forever and a day but I am so GLAD I did it. I already had a degree in Early childhood development when I started.

The Financial aid dept is great. Do look into it. I think it'd be worth you while.

What do you want to do?

I want to do missions. My pastor is going through Liberty right now, he says it is alot of work, but self-rewarding. I want to minor in Psychology or EE, as in some countries the do not allow missionaries to come in and share the gospel. There are so many countries now where the gospel is being shared and accepted, it is just wonderful. My husband surrendered to preach last yr at a Pastor's Conference in Jacksonville, FL. He wants to be an evangelist. I ordered some info from Volunteer State Community College yesterday, it is in TN, but only like 30-40 miles from us, so I am thinking I will do the JR College first then apply at a University.

Thanks everyone for the advice and the support!!!
