Homeschooling for us is a lifestyle. Learning does not start at 8 a.m. and stop at 3 p.m. in life so why should it in school? Our kids are constantly learning whether it be by taking or practicing their music, watching a video on the great museums, watching a documentary or docudrama on PBS, working in the garden, building a home with neighbors, cooking in the kitchen, reading the latest Scientific American or Field and Stream magazine, etc..
Jaysn keeps busy learning all he can about computers and taking them apart and rebuilding them, Chris designs landscaping projects on the computer or paper and is always experimenting in our yard with new plants (he is also building a greenhouse this Spring with my husband), Josh learns all he can about current events and justice (he hopes to be a lawyer some day). Yes, Monday-Friday we have our Math, Science, Literature, Writing, Christian World View, Band, Logic and other classes but we don't limit learning to those times only.

We do sit down activities (reading aloud, curricula workbooks, etc.) during the morning most of the time, but if it's an errand day it's done in the afternoon. I view anything as a learning experience so I suppose in a way it is almost 24/7 beyond the 'textbook' stuff (baking/cooking, gardening/composting, educational television programs or videos, listening to music, educational magazines, going to the library, field trips, life skills - laundry, cleaning, etc.).

I hs a high schooler and we really try to turn it off after 4 and on weekends. He needs a break from the teacher. I think that with younger children learning is constant. I do have to resist bringing up things during non-school time and save whatever I was going to save for our school time.
