House Bill 158: Homeschool Student Testing Requirements
Sponsor:
Representative Mary Helen Garcia

This bill would require homeschoolers to take the state's academic assessment program and also require homeschoolers to take the academic performance tests required of public school students. Any homeschool student who does not demonstrate "adequate yearly progress" could be forced to attend public or private schools.
Status:
01/19/2005 House Education Committee
Action Requested:
Please call the sponsor, Representative Garcia, and give her this message, "House Bill 158 reverses recent New Mexico legislation and violates the No Child Left Behind Act. Please withdraw this bill!" Representative Garcia's number is (505) 986-4435.
HSLDA's Position:
Strongly oppose. This bill would turn back the clock on homeschool freedoms in the state of New Mexico.
