A wonderful fieldtrip
I just had to share a wonderful evening I had with my 8 yr.old Dd. I read about an open house at a local violin makers home from 3-7pm today. It mentioned there would be performances, carols and demos in his workshop. So I thought what a great fieldtrip! My eldest was sick in bed with a cold and Ds didn't feel to good either. So I was thinking about skipping it because I had more than enough work to do at home.
But at the last minute I decided to go just with my 8 yr.old. Afterall, she was the "violinist" and it would be so neat to see how her instrument was made.
Well we arrived at his home. The inside was so elegant and beautifully decorated for christmas. My Dd eyes were as round as saucers.
In the dinning room there was a dinner table laden with elegant food to nibble. Now I thought I was dreaming because we were invited to help ourselves. Dd had fresh watermelon, cantaloupe and pineapple!!!! Plus brie cheese. She was so happy. There were many elegantly dressed people "milling" around and I felt very out of place. I was dressed more like a bag lady and Dd was wearing a little dress with VERY worn runners.
The muscians were playing, Bach and carols while we nibbled on all these wonderful things. I wished my other Dd, Ds and Dh had been able to come too.
We then had a wonderful tour of his workshop and learned about all the steps from a spruce log to a beautiful violin worth about $15000.
It was a wonderful fieldtrip which turned into a "date" with my Dd. She is still talking about the beautiful house. It was all so educational, entertaining and delicious and FREE!!!!
