EducationSchool aged children, frugal college students, and adults returning to college discussions. Public, private, and parochial school topics. Teaching-learning resources. Fun activities.
We are doing homeschool preschool. Our lessons include both our regular homeschool activities as well as our religious lessons. All in all it takes anywhere from an hour to two hours (depending on the difficulty of our craft projects, whether or not ds is acting silly or being serious, etc.).

~Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money.~ Cree proverb
We do about one hour of math and phonics and copywork (at the table) and another hour doing history, art, poetry, memory work, etc (at the couch). This is for first grade.
I'm not really sure how long we spend all together, since our girls are in pre-school, and for the most part teach as life presents the chance. Most of the time, the girls work out with me in the morning, or we dance to the stereo for about ten minutes or so, and I mark that down as P.E. for the state records. We watch part of the morning news, PBS morning shows, and other assorted children's and news shows during the morning, and often my three year old and I will discuss the subject matters {talking about the animals on Zaboo, the accents of the Teletubbies, that sort of thing, she loves imitating animal noises} On days we pick up the house or do laundry, we talk about things like responsibility and safety {i.e. if you don't pick up your toys, you're gonna trip on them and break your neck, and trust me that will hurt more than lifting the lid on the toy box} or why the cat sleeps on the dryer while it's moving. Four days a week, she goes to developmental pre-school in the afternoons for speech and socialization therapies. While she's there, my nearly-two year old and I will run errands, saying names of fruits, trees, various things in the stores, and practice our manners. Sometimes we will go to the library and look at picture books and work the board puzzles in the children's center. Right now we're working on child-led potty training, which is an all-day adventure...
But it's not a set schedule or length. I try to make education part of our lives all the time, because that is what was done for me and it made formal education easier, and also enhanced the learning process and instilled in me a hunger to learn at a young age that has carried me through to this day.
