Question Whats your role as homeschooling mom?

Is your roll to be the teacher or is your roll to be teacher/mom or is your roll to be there to be the encourager, allowing your child to learn on their own with you there as guidance? Is it all 3 or do you have another roll as homeschooling mom?

I guess I'm mostly the encourager. Since we use A Beka videos I don't have to do the teaching. She watches the videos and I will give her tests/quizzes, worksheets, and grade all her papers. I also check her homework and help her if she has a question or is having difficulty with her work. I also help her choose books for reports or find things of use on the internet. I used to be the teacher but we found that we like the videos much better now that she is 13 and is more independent and works more on her own.

I'd say I am a little of both. We do not unschool, so I guess that means I am somewhat of a teacher. I plan our schedule, gather the supplies, and try to keep each day on track. But sticking to the schedule isn't as important as following the varying needs and interests of my daughters.

Certainly I can give a little here and there to keep our lessons interesting and fresh. We might do lessons outside in nice weather. If dd just isn't in the mood to write her lessons, I let her dictate to me. If it is just "one of those days", we junk the lessons and just read or explore the outdoors.

I would say my dd just sees me as Mom.

As my kids have gotten older, I'd say I'm more of an encourager now. I do set the general lesson plans for the week and they do them at their own pace. I miss doing the hands on teaching with them that we did when they were younger.

I think I'm more of an encourager.Mainly cause prek isn't erquired and I still feel she doesn't need to sit and play with toys or watch tv all day and its time to learn. But also cause this is the only year we are doing this cause in aug she will go to kindergarten and i don't want that roll of mom to get put to the back burner cause sometimes when i had more of a teacher roll she wanted me to be teacher 24/7,but hey shes only 5

My role as a Homeschooling Mom is a little bit of all 3 .
I am there for her when she needs me to be but she also likes to learn on her own and then I am there to encourage her and to teach her as well.
