Question fun way to celebrate first day of school?

My little guy will be starting prek soon and I want to do something special for him, but nothing grand. Any ideas?
I of course will take some pictures, but am thinking of some sort of new tradition for every year at back to school time to celebrate and make special.

Here in Germany they have these cones that they fill up with candy or small toys. I can't remember the German word for them! They are just cardboard cones with lids or paper coming out of the top. I wish I had a picture! I guess you could do something like this or decorate a shoebox. I hope this helps!

How about a special outing after the first day to talk about it? We usually do a McDonald's run afterward and get a cone and talk about it and then the kids play. Or when dh gets home, we eat at a place of her choice.
