Default What was the last homeschool field trip you took?

Our last one was to the local pioneer homestead over a year ago. It's getting to be the time of year for it again (actually I may have missed it already! Hope I didn't).

I plan to keep the car once a week and go SOMEWHERE, I dunno, like to the bank or something.

We don't do a lot of "field" trips as such. When dh has his days off, we will sometimes go somewhere. For me to take all 3 kids on a field trip would be bedlam.

The other thing here is most of the good places to go close after the Labour Day weekend, so we try to get to these places during the summer months.

For me to take the kids anywhere truly educational, we'd have to drive to Memphis, which is a BIG scary city, and I'd be afraid to go there alone.

They have some museums and stuff. Dh and I have taken the kids to the Pink Palace and the Zoo on weekends.

Too bad we don't still live in San Diego. There was soooooo much educational crap out there!

The last one I can remember was to some local stables back in May. We went to see the horses because we were doing a farm theme unit at the time.

Oh wait - does the beach count as a field trip??? LOL! We do that field trip all the time.

If you say something like, "Did you know dolphins are mammals, not fish?", it counts as a field trip.

I took the girls to the symphony in September. It was a shorter program for kids, and they both enjoyed it. Does that count? We are not in a support group, and the few times that we have gone places with a group were not very enjoyable.

OMG - now you're in my territory because what I do is supplementation.

DD's lit class was doing Summer of My German Soldier - we went to the WWII memorial downtown.
I took her to meet a veteran my husband knows and she interviewed him for extra credit.

Earlier this Fall they were studying the explorers in SS. We went to the IMAX theatre and saw Lewis and Clark.

Other trips we take, we do day trips about 2 times a month to other town libraries. Some have wonderful exhibits.

We go to the Children's Mueseum at least 2-3 times a year when they change the exhibit. DS was really into bugs last Spring and they had the robotic bug display that was just awesome.

We went to a state park in Muscatine to hunt rocks for dd's 4-H project in June.

This Spring we plan to go to Mazon Creek and fossil hunt. DD hopes to find a Tully Monster!

I also take dd to the symphony when my friend who plays cello can get us free tickets.

We go to our High School plays and variety shows.

Remember, sometimes you are on a field trip and you don't even know it!!!!

We took a field trip today combined with shopping for our dogs' Christmas presents. We went to the pet supply store and got to see a variety of fish, gerbils, hamsters, birds, rabbits. There were also some cats there (available for adoption from a local rescue group) that we spent some time playing with.
