Question What ex-curicular activities do your kids do outside of homeschooling?

Ours take music lessons in the city with an exceptional teacher who is trained to work with special needs kids. Other than that, at present they don't do any other types at present.

We are looking into 4-H though.

    How about you?

Ds wants to start going back to a kiddie music class and kiddie missions study class at church (starting tonight). He went a few months ago and just didn't enjoy it - I am hoping now that he is a little older (and more mature) that he will do well this time.

I am concerned about him going and really loving it though because I just found out this morning that the lady who teaches the music class is going back to school in Jan. and one of the evenings she will be taking classes is Wednesdays. She asked this morning if Sunday afternoons were a problem for us (that is what she is thinking of switching the kiddie music class to) and quite frankly they are. I hate for ds to miss out, but we already have so little family time during the week that I hate to lose Sunday afternoons as well. *sigh* We'll just see what happens.

He also goes to preschool 2 days a week (if you want to count that as an extracurricular activity! ).

At present dd has here own group called the Thayer Timberwolves... She started the group with a couple local kids and they have made bird feeders for the nursing home (donated by Lowes ) cleaned the park a couple of times....Planted a tree for 9/11 victims (we had one from town... Rhoda Wanda, died in tower 1) (Tree was purchased with sales from pins they made and plaque donated by Sangamon Trophy Co.) They put together 2 Secret Christmas Baskets for 2 families last year and hope they can do 3 or 4 this year..... Tried to do Angel Tree last year but all the kids were wishing for PS2 and the like so we couldn't..... They've done lots of nature hikes and made their own nature packs, field guides and walking sticks.... went to the State fair together..... and publish a local newsletter........ We tried soccer but the couches are to aggressive here, winning means everything, that's not for us.......

We try to spread out their extracirricular activities throughout the year. We also do not like to schedule anything for the weekends, as this is our only family time since dh is gone all week.

We have music lessons on Wed. afternoon

We go for family swims and family skates on the weekends, or I take them through the week

Tues. evening is Brownies for dd 7
Thurs. evening is Beavers for ds 5

We are taking a break from their swimming lessons and gymnastics. I think we are busy enough right now!

Oh, and they will go for Art lessons in November for 6 weeks, once a week for an hour!

Gosh, now I can see why I keep saying to myself...no more activities... yvonne

Our younger three take piano lessons, oldest takes violin. We recently participated in a junior toastmasters public speaking class, as well.
We participate in a 4H club of fellow homeschoolers, approximately 25 members. 4H has been a wonderful experience for all four children, as they enjoy entering the projects in the county fair, participating in county events and contests and so forth.

    Blessings!

Boys play hockey in the winter and dd takes skating. DD is taking swimming lessons now and the boys will in a couple months. In the summer dd is going to play t-ball again and the boys will play baseball (fun team), no travelling! My one son is also wanting to take 4-H so we will see.
