Gee, I wonder how many children are falling through the cracks in public school???? I was a foster mom of over 50 children through my home and guess what, even with IEP's yes it is true....they were falling through the cracks in public school....and yes the children were tested...and yes they were as much as 3 1/2 years BEHIND!!!! Sorry to say testing doesn't teach a child. Testing, certified teachers, public schools ETC, did NOTHING to bring the children up to grade level. I personally watched this "method" time and again which led to failure of the child to progress. Homeschooling is proven to work...unfortunately school districts don't get any money for children who are not enrolled. Oh yes, I loved the cirriculum our tax dollars paid for ....the assignment was to write about what you would put into a time capsule to show people what it was like in the year 2001...zero boundaries were put on this assignment. The "teacher" wrote up on the board different drugs, explicit sexual items, all kinds of descriptive unmentionables for all the tenth graders to view. I called the teacher and told him one of my girls had told me this...he told me he couldn't put "boundaries" on it as it would have taken away from the assignment. I thanked him for making my job harder as a foster parent, I thanked him for glorifying all the things he wrote on the board, also for waisting my tax dollars on an abusive assignment for the kids (my foster daughter was very embarrassed in class that day). I went to the principal and presented my case...they appologized, and assured me this "assignment" would not be used again!!! I also thanked them (at the time my dd was 4 years old) for making up my mind to homeschool. My dd is now in 5th grade...and way ahead not just according to "tests", but actual learning capacity. She is very well socialized, even performing with a top ballet/tap studio here. Homeschoolers are in colleges all over the country, in wonderful jobs, in the service....working on people in hospitals saving people from diseases and death. We are not closing down public schools for their inadequacies....and there are plenty of them....soooooo as a result of one family, when homeschooling is proven to be a winner, in my humble opinion this ruling needs to be put to rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the long post guys, take care and happy homeschooling, Katy
