    Default Envelope System Anyone????

I was reading a few other posts where people mentioned not having the money to spend when needed on certain usual things in life.

I do the envelope method (and the money in the closet and money in the vase methods also!---LOL)

I have envelopes for vacation, chicken feed, hog feed, any special item I am saving for, etc. etc.

And I throw emergency cash money in my big vase on top of my cabinet....that has like $400 in it now and I never touch that money.

You know, just $5 -$10 here and there and I keep putting money in all the envelopes and the next thing you know...I have alot. It is amazing how we can flitter away 5 and 10s (20s now I guess...lol) so easily, but just pitching them into the envelope when I can sure makes alot of cash on hand to buy what is needed.

Anyone else do this type of thing....hide money around the house and use the envelope system?

I hide money around the house. Then sometimes I forget about it, or don't always put it in the same place and get a pleasant surprise now and then

Yup! I do the same thing. I have a place where i put any "bonus" money I get and use that for my fun money or if I want to get my haircut, etc. I also have envelopes for everything we're saving for. My friends make fun of me, if I say I want something now, they ask if I have an envelope for that.

I'm just re-organizing our budget now, and my mom gave me envelopes, which I intend to use for paying CASH for everything and sorting it all into envelopes. I think it's the best method for us.

Whenever I stash money, I always end up having to use it.

AAhhhh HAAAaaa---at least you are the few that have "stashed cash" to use....so many use the credit card instead for a purchase.

Spending cash is a good thing....LOL

granted not on the "crummy bills etc. we hate" but at least it is cash and not credit...HA HA HA

I just use any old envelopes and I have been using the same ones for years.

Plus I do not sew...so for me cheap old enveopes will have to do..HA HA HA

Love those hand made envelopes.... and have fabric on hand...

Now, where to set up the sewing machine?

the are good and having a zipper on them would be handy i have tons of material around and old clothing. I just need some zippers.

many of you do crafting - where is the best place to buy simple zippers online. My local hab-dash (i cant spell or say the word. lol) shop closed.

If i had those i would be more inclinded to use them for putting money aside. like next week i wont be doing a big grocery shop but i will need to go at the end of the month and it will be easier for me to put the cash aside rather than leave it in the bank. the end of the month for me is very tight compared to rest of the month. it would help a lot

I have been obsessing over those fabric envelopes for days now... I really wish I knew how to sew more than a straight line (and yes, even that is a chore for me). But there isn't an envelope for fabric envelopes containing $30 either. Guess I'll stick to my dollar store box of envelopes

Those are really neat. I use small 3 1/2inches by about 10 inch - pencil pouches they sell at walmart. I got one for 99 cents and put paper envies in it. Keep them all together, but even if you wanted one for several categories - they are cheap. They are heavy plastic with a zipper on top - I have had mine for over 2 years.
