I'm off to the dentist in a little bit. Going in for a cleaning/checkup and to see about the bridge for the tooth that was pulled a couple months ago. I don't even want to think about the cost of that, but it will crown the teeth on either side and that would most likely need to be done before long anyway.

Ds & dil are coming for dinner tonight. It will be quick and easy since we have a meeting later on. We'll have chicken patty sandwiches and mac & cheese.

I do need to clear the dining table again before we eat. I don't know why it becomes the dumping spot in the house. I also need to get something for refreshments for our meeting tonight. I was going to make something, but I'm just worn out. I'll find some cheap cookies and we'll be set. I usually have a stash when they go on sale, but I haven't replenished it recently.

Yesterday was not fun. I took a shower and when I stepped out I saw that the little dog had puked on one of the rugs. I'm trying to dry off and get dressed and I hear the poor guy whimpering. He's walking back and forth past the bathroom door. The phone rings. After that I was done. I'm usually pretty good at multi-tasking, but this was too much! Dh and I took the dogs for a walk around the block. Day 2 of walking. It's not far, but it's more than we've been doing. We have 3 dogs and of course they all have to poop on the way. Real fun carrying 3 doggy bags of poop around the block.

Ds comes home on Friday and I've still not made his bed.

What happened to my "if it's not on my to-do list, it's not getting done".? Dh was right, it didn't work.

I have posted for awhile, but have been lurking. As most of you know I hated my low paying stressful jobs, but have good insurance. I did quit the catering job recently, (my feet feel better) I still have the school for disabilities job, I was going to quit in August, but instead I asked to be moved to a different room, and will start this classroom in August, DH and I will be living off of his pay, while putting mine on debt and in the savings. This way if my new classroom doesn't work out for me, I can quit.

DD#1 was married on June 1st. So we spent a good bit of $$ for it, even though we did a lot of DIY things with it. It turned out beautiful and she looked so happy.

DS#1 is getting ready to transfer to an out of state college and made it for co-ed cheerleader, he is transferring from a community college, so we are busy with this.

I am going away with my parents for a week to my sisters house on Telico Lake, TN, this will be the first time I have been away from home for this long by myself, I am looking forward to it, I need to find some peace and recharge my battery. This will be a very inexpensive vacation, with jet skiing , hot=tub, and beautiful lake. I am so excited.

DD#2 college grad also, and lives on her own and works for our local television station

Hello, I am new to this site so thanks for creating this forum. I emailed Dave in the past about this question but never received a reply due to the billions of emails he receives perhaps heh. I am a fan of Dave, but I listen to him more for motivational purposes since I do not agree with 100% of the things he preaches. I hope that the subject I am about to bring up will be explained on his show, but it never is.

One major thing about what Dave says is geared towards people who do not have a lot of self control to begin with. I am told by my friends that I have a lot of will power since I do not act on impulse and try to make the best decision out of any situation and do not let emotion overcome any good benefits. Here are a few things that I disagree with Dave about that I hope someone could clarify to make me understand better:

1. When Dave brings up that credit cards offer rewards points and airline miles, his only responses have been "I know millionaires who didn't get rich by receiving rewards points from credit cards" or "These credit card companies created the points system so you cannot beat them at their game!"

I could have 50 credit cards but will make sure that I do not go over any amount that I know I can not pay back in full at the end of the month. I have been doing so for over 15 years, have an 800+ credit score which makes it very easy for me to buy a new home or refinance without having to be limited to finding a bank to do underwriting on a house without a credit score. My credit cards show that I have earned back thousands of dollars from using them. Not from buying unnecessary things, but I use credit cards to buy groceries and other necessities. I sometimes get up to 5% off just from using the card, and I pay it off before the due date and get charged no interest. Sure I won't become a millionaire from that alone, but I am saving a lot of money. Another benefit to using a credit card is in the case the card information gets stolen, then the money is stolen from the credit card company and not my own personal bank account.

2. He always tells business owners to pay cash for everything. I have been a successful business owner through loans, and I have millionaire friends who get loans to flip houses. Yes there is risk involved, but if you really do your research and offer something at a good price that is in high demand, it is very likely that you will make profit. Heck there are billion dollar corporations that took the biggest risks and now they are the biggest earners. So it is not a 100% guarantee that if you get a loan you will fail. If you just come up with an idea without research or experience and then get a loan then yes that is very risky. I have paid off all of my loans in the past.

3. He is often shocked at bad relationships between spouses. He got really lucky and sounds like he found a great wife. He doesn't have the "bad marriage experience" to realize there are women out there (and men) who lie and steal and play the victim. My ex-wife before marriage acted like the perfect person but once we got married she totally changed so I divorced her before things got worse. Especially with callers who say "my husband won't share his account with me" Yeah, probably because you left out the part that you spend every single penny on shopping sprees, manicures, pedicures, and getting your hair done every weekend when the money isn't there. Most women compete with others and want to be like Kim Kardashian.

4. He always says "Instead of buying a $40,000 car you could invest it and turn that into $xxx, xxx, xxx amount when you are 70!" Like there is a guarantee that we will live that long. My grandfather and my dad looked very young and healthy for their age and died of heart attacks out of the blue while in their early 50's. My retirement isn't that large as I doubt I will live that long especially in this stressful world we live in now. I rather keep most of the cash liquid for high cost emergencies that insurance may not cover and pay taxes on it as a sense of security.

I am not a troll, but was hoping to get a response on some of the things I disagree with regarding Dave's comments. I have listened to him for many years and lately his shows are really good so I catch every podcast now. I mostly agree with him and thank him for all that he does.

Trying to hold our family accountable. I am embarrassed to not be so budget-savy. We've always been big spenders, not so much savers. We have absolutely $0 in savings!!!

Our income is approx $980 per week, after taxes, for a family of 5; 2 adults, 3 small children. We also have pets (dogs, cats, chickens, goats, hogs, horses). None in which we will ever sell off. Except the hogs, those will be freezer within the next 2 months or so.

As a homemaker, my goal is to become as self-sufficient as possible.

Where does someone even begin?
I know our income, I hardly know our bills OR our debt.
Sigh.

Terrific Tuesday to you, oh tremendous tightwads!

I'm starting this thread to try and pretend I've got my frugal on... we've already had drive-thru for breakfast...

But hey, when I logged in to make sure my cc payment had cleared, I was able to sign up for next quarter's promo (5% on gas... yeah, I'll come close to maxxing that, unfortunately... AND I found a surprise 2% promo on $500... hey, that's an extra $5 I wasn't expecting... every littel bit, right? I'm paying the card off semi-monthly and charging EVERYTHING... at the beginning of the year I was using statement credits to pay back less than I spent, which was great... but now I'm sort of saving it up for the holidays or an emergency...

Work is closing early for a function today, so I'm goign to swing by CVS to try to pick up some of their 10/$10 w/3 ECB suave deodorants-- I give those to my Sis for her stinky kids :) (I use it it too, if they have decent smelling ones.) I'm kind of kicking myself for not checking the ads last week, because I had a $5/30 CVS coupon plus a $1/1 suave coupon that both expired Sunday, so I could have used those(obvioulsy would not have bought 30 deodorants, but the deodorant and 5/$5 cokes would have gotten me halfway there... oh well... spilt milk!

May also swing by the grocery that has grapes on sale for $.99/lb... we NEVER get grapes because they are SO expensive (ok, once in a great while, but the kids inhale them and I don't get any... if I buy the 5lb max, I might actually get a few! :) And while I'm there, I COULD buy some GCs for double gas points, but I can't really think of many I'll use... Hmm... could buy one for CVS, since I'm going there anywya... Jiffy Lube since I'll get my oil changed again I'm sure... I got REALLY spoiled when they did the last GC promo, it was right when we were paying Home Depot for the kitchen remodel, so I bought THOUSANDS of dollars in gift cards and got $2.20 off per gallon for several fill ups. Itwas SO nice filling my car for $1.30/gallon! :)

Ah well, again with the spilt milk. Hope everyone has a happy day!
