Default Anyone have a spouse working from home?

My Dh just started a new job and he now works from home. He does go out to see clients, but is mostly in his home office now.
AND coincidentally, the kids got out of school for the summer at almost the same time, so my quiet little world has been turned upside down!

    The positives:

*Saving $ - not as much driving for him, so saving on gas, that's good!
I make him lunch now, so that saves money too. I rarely could get him to take lunch with him before.

*When my ds-13 watches his two younger siblings while I run a quick errand, I feel better that Dad is just downstairs in case of an emergency.

*His office is in the basement, out of the way, so good location in the house.

    The negatives:

*The place is no longer "mine" during the day. He pops up often enough to throw off my routine.

*He gets a bit irritated when the kids have too many toys strewn around. I'm always picking up during the day, but usually just have one big clean up where we all make the house really nice just before Dh comes home, NOT CONSTANTLY! They're kids and need to play.

*He wants the kids to be doing something constructive all the time, not just hanging out. We plan to do some fun and educational things this summer, but sometimes we're JUST HERE HANGING OUT!

*I need to keep the kids semi-quiet, so he can make business calls. Hasn't been bad so far, but the family room is above his office so need to keep a watch on them.

Anyone else deal with this? He said if he needed to he would rent a little office space somewhere, but I really hope it works out here.

I wouldn't like DH working from home, I'm too attached to my personal time.

women marry men... because they will be spending at least 8.5 hours out of the home.

So when they throw you a curve... yukky!!

Tell him you didn't sign up for 24/7.... lol!

seriously? it will all work out.
The children will grow used to needing to keep the noise level down and dad will get used the toy factor.
kids and dads are quite resilient!

DH has worked from home with the exception of brief travel for over 4 yrs. now. We also homeschool and I work out of the home part time, so someone is almost always home.

Working out of the home isn't an option for him because the team he manages is based around the world, there's no one good place for him to be located. Thankfully, he has designated office space (nice tax break, btw) and most days he only comes up for air a couple of times. We pretty much like each other and are spread out in the house enough that we can keep it that way.

It saves us tons in gas and lunches out, his company pays for internet along with his expenses. We had a tough adjustment period but found our groove after a few weeks. I hope it goes well for you too!

Oops, I work away from home, not out of it. We did have a come to Jesus meeting of sorts where we set some ground rules that have helped things go smoother. No micro management allowed and domains are respected during "business" hours. Believe it or not, it works.
